A Simple Glance
Author's note: This fic is based on KoF Another Day: In The Dark, but I added some extra scenes of my own.
I made this for Valentine's Day. Hope you all like it!
The dark walls of the tunnel lit up as the as the train's headlights passed over them. The clickety-clack of the wheels against the metal track reverberated against the concrete walls of the underground tunnel.
Inside the train, two young female figures lounged comfortably against the soft leather seats.
One girl, with long, soft chestnut hair flowing down her shoulders, was staring apprehensively out a window. The other girl, this time with short, dark, wavy hair shook her head at the younger girl.
"For the last time, Kula, don't worry. They'll be all right."
"Bu – but Whip-san…" the chestnut-haired Kula protested. "What if K' –"
"He'll be fine," Whip cut her off gently. "They'll both be fine. A simple operation like this is nothing. In fact," she added, with a hint of pride in her voice, "hijacking this train was a piece of cake."
Kula had to smile at that.
The two ex-NESTS mercenaries stood with their backs against each other as the Ikari soldiers ganged up on them.
One mercenary, a deeply tanned young man with a shock of silvery gray hair, snarled impatiently at his partner: "Isn't it time yet?"
The other mercenary, a big, powerfully-built man in heavy cyborg armor, chuckled. "You want something flashy? It's time!"
And with that, he fired the small cannon built into his arm at the train's side. It gave way, creating a huge hole in the train.
Quick as a flash, the man grabbed his silvery haired partner and heaved himself out of the train.
His partner didn't even have time to yell.
Whip got up and stretched. "It's about time."
Kula straightened up. "You mean –"
Whip nodded as she walked to the rear exit of the train. She began to count: "…3…2…1."
At the count of 1, she flung the door open. Immediately two bodies hurtled into the train and slid across the floor before coming to a stop. The bigger of the two picked himself up, dusted himself off, and sat down on one of the seats. The other one lay flat on his back on the floor, his eyes shut.
Whip looked out the open door and saw a familiar face on the other train gape at her and mouth her former name: "Muchiko."
"Ralf, Leona, Clark…" she sighed, bowing her head, "I'm sorry…"
Meanwhile, Kula, upon seeing the younger man sprawled out on the floor, let out a gasp and ran to his side. Kneeling down, she looked at him with concern as the seated man chuckled again. "How was that, partner? Flashy, eh?"
The young man opened his eyes and glared at the other man before groaning, "Too flashy, you idiot." He let his head hit the floor with a thud.
He had just closed his eyes again to try to shut out the pain when he felt a slim hand come to rest on his shoulder. At once the throbbing seemed to ebb. He opened his eyes again.
Kula was looking down at him warmly with a small smile on her face. "K'…" she said softly. K' could see with a simple glance the message in her eyes: I'm glad you're safe.
The pained expression on his face softened, and he sent a message back to her with his eyes: Me too.
With an almost inaudible groan, K' sank into unconsciousness.
Another one-shot... Oh well. I guess I might be able to continue "Humdrum" and "Passage" but I'm still in the midst of writing my thesis for English class... I do NOT adore this part of high school. I'm at my wit's end! Help me, you guys... groans
