Calvin remembered reading somewhere how, death is the first step to the biggest adventure. Or something like that.

"Calvin, dear?" Susie woken Calvin up. "Do you remember this? Oh, we were so young then." His wife said as she held Cavin's old time best friend infront of him. "I remember." Calvin took Hobbs with his frail shaking hands and placed him beside himself in the hospital bed. "Susie, why don't you run down to the cafeteria and grab us some lunch?" Calvin sugested. Susie kissed Calvin's forehead, "If that's what you'd like, sweet heart." And she left.

Calvin looked over to the tiger sitting beside him, no longer a stuffed animal, but the Hobbes that he knew. "It's been a while." Calvin stated, taking note that Hobbes hasen't seen Calvin since he was a boy. Hobbes didn't really look at Calvin, but he still replied, "Yeah, time sure does fly, why don't you tell me what's happened? You've married Susie Derkins?" Calvin began to say how he and Susie fell in love durring highschool, how he'd written about their space adventures and snow days into great books, and how, "I use to visit you in the attic all the time, Hobbes, but I never saw you. Just an old stuffed tiger." Hobbes smiled weakly at Calvin, tears forming in Hobbes eyes as he said, "You didn't need me anymore." Calvin frowned and stared down at his feet at the end of the bed, he knew he'd discarded Hobbes for a little bit of a while, but he never thought it'd be for this long. "I promised we'd always be together. We were best friends." Calvin began to tear up aswell. "We still are. It was just long distance for a while." Hobbes reasured. Calvin layed back, relaxing a little more, as the tension and stress could kill him right about now. "I'm glad," calvin said, "That you could see me like this one last time, Hobbes. Thank you for giving me the best memmorys and friendship any boy could have." "No, thank you." Hobbes said as they both embraced in a hug.

There was a knock on the door followed by Calvin's wife, daughter, and grandson. "They came to visit." Susie said cheerfully as Calvin wiped the tears from his eyes. Calvin's grandson sat beside him and Hobbes, "Who's that, grandpa?" His grandson asked. Calvin took Hobbes in his hands again and took a long good look at him, "This is Hobbes, my best friend when I was your age." Calvin thought a momment. Calvin looked over to his granson and smiled, "Why don't you have him? This tiger knows how to have the adventures of a life time!" Calvin chuckled. "But it's just a stuffed tiger." The boy stated. Calvin leaned in close to him, "If you put a tuna sandwich in a cage, you can catch him as a real tiger." Calvin whispered as he could see the delight and joy in his grandson's face.

A nurse came into the room saying that visiting hours are almost over and to wrap things up. Calvin handed over Hobbes the the small boy, and as they left he saw Hobbes, holding his grandson's hand as they walked out the door. But just before, Hobbes stopped and smiled one last time, "I'm gonna take good care of him, I promise." "Don't worry Hobbes," Calvin said with confidence, "I know."
