The children of Harry Potter and Ginny Weasley were always both cursed and blessed with extreme popularity at school. Almost everyone's dream at Hogwart's was aiming to get good with them; each for very different reasons. Lily for being a sweetheart, yet always finding a way to get what she wanted, James for being the charming troublemaker that his grandfather was, and Albus Severus for seeking knowledge, never stopping for anything.
This story, however, is focused upon James... the idiot- Er, I mean, the one who always kept a sharp eye for mischief. And, boy, oh boy, did he find it hurtling at him like a rogue Bludger. The fact that he was in fifth year didn't change anything. In fact, with the coming of new magical knowledge only boosted his ability to get into trouble.
...
Oh boy, Christmas break. Like school didn't stretch on enough. James thought this to himself as he walked off of the Hogwarts express, still steaming with arrival. He joined up with his siblings, and sighed. He would be cooped up in the Burrow with them, but they'd expect him to try to play tricks on them. Hopefully Ron wasn't off with Hermione again, he was really fun. Ron always joked with them, bought them all gifts (Yeeaahh!) and even helped James prank the others.
He snuck a glance at Albus, who had his nose buried in his book. James could use a Tripping Jinx... His thoughts of creating trouble stopped short when he saw Harry running toward them, Ginny right behind. "Hi Dad!" James yelled out in excitement. Ginny caught up, looking indignant. "Oh, sure," she said, panting. "No love for your own Mum?" James looked at her, smiling. "Dad, who is this mysterious lady?"
Harry looked fondly at his sons. "I wish I knew. She's been following me since I left the house." James laughed openly, and even Albus had to smile.
Harry continued, "By the way, Teddy's coming over for Christmas." James was going to reply when he jumped slightly. He just had a wonderful idea, but some of it would take stealth and chance. A lot of planning. But he would pull it off. He just wasn't sure how much Teddy would like him afterwards, though.
Christmas Evening- This was his plan, and it would be executed perfectly. James ran his finger over his wand of Birch. It hadn't failed him yet. It couldn't now. The rest of the family was in the hall, eating and drinking. Harry was dancing around in the corner with Ron to Muggle music, Hermione shooting them nasty looks. As far as James knew, Teddy was kissing Victoire Pouffe in his room. At least, that was what Rose had told him. He cast a Disillusion Charm on himself, and inspected his appearance in a mirror. It wasn't perfect, but it would do.
James used a Muffling Charm on his feet for good measure. Best be quiet. He stalked down the dusty hall, waving merrily at various paintings. Some of them were cheering him on, others sniffing disdainfully. Haters gonna hate. He slowly made his way to Teddy's room, where he stopped. Soft talking was issuing from the door. "You know that I love you?" James snickered. This would be hilarious. He heard a feminine voice reply.
"I do too."
Victoire always was somewhat soft-spoken. James paid no attention and cracked open the door. The silhouettes of the couple were visible. Time for Phase Two.
"Confundus." James almost heard the spell hit Teddy Lupin and grinned to himself. This would be fun.
Victoire didn't notice as Teddy's eyes unfocused. She did notice, all too much, when he next opened his mouth.
"I think you just farted, lovey." Victoire's jaw dropped, as James doubled over in laughter.
No need to go into the details of what happened next, but let's say that when Teddy Lupin next saw a Dementor, he saw the terrifying images of that night.
