The Perfect Man
Disclaimer: I do not own Sweeney Todd or the associated characters.
He was the perfect man. Though the feelings she had for Sweeney made it so she would die for him, this man seemed to work his way around it. She was, highly intrigued by him and his ways.
In fact, this man had already started to court her. Flowers would show up on her baking counter, she'd get nice letters. All was good. But only to her, of course. Because at some point in time, Sweeney had become aware of the acts. And he hated it, being the jealous type. She was his, in a sense. She was devoted to him.
But as these things seemed to increase, and eventually, he showed up and asked her to marry him. Nellie was shocked. What about Sweeney? She knew he would never love her back...
But she wanted company. Someone who would actually listen to her, warm her bed at night- someone who would love her. That was something Sweeney couldn't do. He was so wrapped up in his revenge for Lucy he had no time for that.
Mrs. Lovett deserved love. It had been so long since she had been even a little acknowledged for doing something right. Of course she would say yes to this man. Even when her heart belonged to Sweeney, she still had the dedication to tie herself to the man. She'd love him as best as she could.
The day after he proposed, when he gave her a ring, Sweeney invited him up for a shave.
He was the perfect man. He treated her like a real lady. But the only feet that ever came down the steps that night were Mr. Todd's.
