Hi folks, it's me again. With the first part of my 120 prompts challenge. It's just a short fic, but I hope you like it.
You know this feeling when you see the first snow of the year? And even though I am not a child anymore I still feel joyous.
Enough said! Enjoy!
Prompt 19: Snow
Fandome: Star wars
Characters: A young Anakin and Obi-Wan
Small white crystals are slowly floating to the ground.
Anakin stops and tilts his head up. He watches how white dots tumble through the air. It's a true spectacle. He forgets everything around him and stares into the sky. A gust of wind blows the cold particles in his face.
Anakin doesn't know why, but it makes him feel happy, giddy even. He smiles and tries to grasp these little flakes. When he doesn't succeed, he isn't angry or frustrated at all. Laughing echoes from the nearby mountains.
The young boy feels complete bliss. And really he couldn't care less that he should follow his master into some cave, because apparently they need to hide from a snow storm.
Snow.
Anakin has never seen snow before. Growing up on a hot desert planet where water is as rare as true civilization, he has rarely ever seen rain and it never gets cold enough to actually freeze.
Of course he has heard about it. The star pilots talk about it sometimes. But they don't seem to like it very much. It doesn't fill them with the same awe he is experiencing.
Snow.
It's new, strange, fascinating and incredibly beautiful. The curious apprentice is absolutely delighted and exhilarated.
The snow falls fast and soon creates a white carpet on the previously barren landscape. Anakin likes the snow very much. It purifies the earth and gives it a rare shine of complete innocence.
So much terror, fear and sadness he has seen in his short life makes him yearn for this perfect peaceful world.
He waits a while longer, because he wants to know the feel of the soft comforter under his fingers. There is a small layer of white on the nature now. He kneels down and moves his hand carefully through the powder. He thinks that clouds might feel like this, so fleeting, so subtle.
And cold, too. A shiver shakes his body and briefly he wonders if he'll find Obi-Wan again. But he doesn't panic (panicking is not for a Jedi anyway), because the force is everywhere around him in this breathtaking environment.
Maybe, he contemplates, he has never felt so close to the force, so part of the living energy.
And connected as he was he practically feels his master coming for him. He breathes in and out and lets his emotions flow through the force. When he can finally see Obi-Wan he notices how his concerned frown melts into a smile.
"It's marvelous", he shouts over the wind.
Obi-Wan looks at him and can't help, but share even some of his apprentice's enthusiasm. "Let's go", he says nevertheless, because the storm is intensifying.
Anakin sighs, "Do we have to?" And Obi-Wan shakes his head at the boy's pout. "Yes we do", he answers and Anakin nods clearly sad to leave this wonderland.
"Will I ever see snow again, master?", he asks and looks up hopefully. "Of course you will", Obi-Wan assures him, "There are some planets even, where it snows all the time." "That'd be awesome", Anakin squeals. Happy again he lets himself be lead away to the safe cave, where they could wait until the bad weather is over.
Obi-Wan smiles at his apprentice. He had seen lots of snow before and doesn't see the marvel in it anymore. But he realizes that he should, because there is something miraculous about snow. One overlooks the wonders around him, when he's seen them before, he thinks. Maybe everyone should look at the world with the eyes of a child once in a while.
The End. :) Isn't young Anakin cute?
