All is quiet as I sit here in the dark room. The muggle house is empty, silent. I'm barely even breathing, I don't dare.

Next to me, Harry is unconscious, stunned by a jinx as we ran from the snatchers. I think he dropped his wand, back in the woods. Mine is broken in three places.

I lean over to touch his forehead, willing him to wake up. No response, but his skin is burning, feverish. Slowly, I stand up and move to the only window. It's tall and wide and serves as a door to the pitch black garden beyond. I don't want to open it, but I must, I need to let in some cool air.

I reluctantly turn my back against the yawning dark and go sit next to Harry again. All is silent, nothing moves, we're completely alone.

Thud.

I jump slightly. My heart beats a little faster. I close my eyes, and tell myself tv calm down. I sit there unmoving, hoping, praying that the noise doesn't come again.

Thud.

A shiver runs down my spine, and I gasp. Quickly, I cover my mouth, desperately hoping it wasn't heard by whatever was making the noise. A cat perhaps? Something bigger?

I clutch Harry's hand tightly, clinging to him, begging him wordlessly to wake up.

Thud.

Tears leak from my eyes, I'm totally frozen against the wall, far too close to the gaping doorway leading to the night, and the malice lurking in it.

My breathing gets faster and faster. I have to move. Something dangerous is coming closer, I have no means of defence, besides closing that door. But I can't move, I'm paralysed with fear.

Thud. Thud.

I let out a cry as I lunge forward and shove the door across with my feet, putting at least one barrier between me and whatever ... or whoever is approaching from the blackness.

I drag my eyes away from the black hole and turn to Harry. His eyes are roaming around under his eyelids, his fingers twitching. He opens his eyes, and is immediately sitting up, panicked by the frightened tears running down my face. I put my finger on my lips and slowly turn my head towards the glass door. He follows my eyes, looking into the darkness when another thud comes, louder and much closer than before. His eyes widen, and he clutches for my hand as we shrink back against the wall.

Thud.

Heavy breathing.

Thud.

My heartbeat, faster.

THUD.

I scream as a white face crashes up against the glass, leering, fingers scrabbling, clawing, and red eyes gleam hungrily as they see us crouched in terror.

A flash of blinding light hits my eyes as the glass is reduced to dust.

His laugh is cruel as he steps towards s. So cruel. The sound of it leaves me in utter despair and horror. It's probably the last thing I'll ever hear.

Another step, and he raises his wand.

Avada...
