This is my goodbye to Monty Oum, may he rest in peace.
I can't really say I knew Monty Oum. Hell, I wouldn't have known who you were talking about if anyone told me who he was two years ago. I never actually met him, or had any form of contact with him, or anything. But to make this so it's not just pointless ramblings, I am going to tell you my story or part of it anyway.
About two years ago, my family had just moved to a new city, in a new state, and I didn't really know anyone, so I did what most people do and started doing stuff online. About a month before the move, I had come across RVB on YouTube, so after the move I watched every episode on the RT website and then I reached the end of the series at the time and still wanted to see more things that could make me smile. So I went into the trending section on the video archive and there I saw a video labeled 'Red Trailer' and it had the silouhette of a girl with a big scythe, so I clicked on it, watched it, and fell in love with the show right then and there. Then I waited for more that I knew would be coming because at the end of the video there were three more girls. I couldn't tell who they were but I knew that this was going to be my favorite show. So I waited for more, and as the trailers came out I fell more and more in love with the show. When it came out I was happy, I had the biggest smile on my face all week, for the first time in a while I had a group of people I could talk to that wouldn't judge me because my brain runs different from theirs. Instead the people in my new group were all just fans of a good story and quirky characters. It helped me get through a tough time and now I have friends in the real world too, and I owe all of it to Monty Oum. If he hadn't made RWBY I don't know where I would be, but I do know I would be pretty down.
So thank you Monty for all of your work to make something that people enjoy, You will be missed by many, mourned by several. and always remembered, so long as someone wants to know what happens next.
