Elena drank up the beer in the plastic cup in one gulp, still staring at Damon from behind the tree she was standing by. He was sitting down next to Rebekah in front of the bonfire a few feet away from her. Why the hell did he need to lean his face into hers that close? They were talking when suddenly Damon pulled off the black burnt cover around the marshmallow Rebekah was toasting before lifting it up to her mouth. He watched her take it off the stick with her mouth before lifting his own fingers into his mouth, sucked the remain on his fingers off, still locking eyes with her. Elena let out what sounded like a growl. 'Ughhh, gross' she silently thought as she glared at Rebekah, flinched when she saw Rebekah returned to Damon's eyes with a wicked smile. She wished she had had the super hearing vampire thingy so she could hear exactly what they were chatting about that made them look so concentrate on each other. Elena's thought was suddenly disrupted when she heard Stefan's voice right beside her ear.

"Oh that look. Someone's jealous…"

She turned around and winced.

"I'm not jealous."

She put her hand on her hip, trying to look intimidating when she raised her eyebrow at the younger Salvatore.

"Of course you are."

Caroline chimed in as she slid her hands around Stefan's waist and glanced at Elena.

"Come on Elena, if Stefan can see it, everyone else can see it."

Stefan casually threw his hands around Caroline before nodding at Elena as to confirm what his girlfriend said. Elena rolled her eyes at them, sighed.

"Fine! Fine. I'm jealous. Thanks for pointing it out."

Elena turned around to look at Damon's direction again, immediately flinched when she saw Rebekah leaned in and whispered something into Damon's ears, making his lips stretched into a mischievous smirk.

"What are they talking about?"

She turned back to Stefan and Caroline, demanded, knowing it was no difficult task with their vampire super hearing ability.

"They … about the marshmallows."

Stefan cleared his throat, lowered his head not to look at her.

"Care, what are they talking about?"

"Nothing in specific. They're flirting. Hard."

Caroline answered without hesitation. Stefan chuckled but said nothing. Elena let out a heavy sigh. Well, wasn't that nice. Damon hitting hard on chicks. No news.

"Listen Elena. As your friends, well, best friends, I think you should let him know how you feel"

Stefan said sincerely, studying her face carefully, Caroline nodded beside him. Elena, for a moment, regret telling them about her crush on Stefan's big brother. Elena turned back to look at Damon again before knowing it was a mistake as he was now tucking a lock of blond hair behind Rebekah's ears. She turned back, pissed.

"I'm hungry. I'm gonna head to the Grilled. You guys wanna come?"

"Sure. I'll drive."

Stefan said and started heading out of the camping site with Caroline clutching beside him. Elena followed them, nodded goodbye to her classmates on her way out, trying not to glance back at Damon and Rebekah.

"Ugh. Don't know what Damon found in that blond bimbo."

Caroline said hastily as she gulped at her strawberry smoothie. Despite being a vampire, Caroline still kept her drinking favorites every time they're at the Grille. It made Elena felt like nothing had changed, like Caroline didn't turn at all. She still remembered how shocked she was when Caroline told her about Stefan and what he was and how she turned into one like him last year. Stefan looked at Caroline lovingly, absentmindedly stroking her back. They were so loving to each other it made Elena felt a little bit jealous and lonely.

"She's not a blond bimbo, Care. She's kinda hot though. Actually very hot. She's just come to town a couple weeks ago but now everyone at school knows her and her hair glows when the lights hit it and …"

Elena trailed off, noticing her own insecurities as she realized she was praising Rebekah.

"She's an attention whore."

Caroline said, nodded as if obvious, still not taking attention away from her smoothie. Elena and Stefan burst into a small laugh.

"Well, well, what fun am I missing?"

Elena immediately straightened up and looked around to see Damon standing there, casually sticking his hands into his front pockets, his blue eyes gleaming and his lips stretching into that familiar smirk. Elena tried to ignore how sexy he looked in his black T-shirt that complimented his fine muscles underneath.

"Caveman. It was fun before you showed up."

It was Caroline who first reacted to him.

"Barbie. Good evening to you too."

Damon said to Caroline but his eyes glued on Elena. She tried not to look uncomfortable as she was feeling. Damon stepped up to sit down on the chair next to Elena. She held her breath as she caught his scent radiating towards her. That scent that she always found so alluring. She never could decide whether it was a vampire thing to be irresistible or it was just him.

"Where's your … date?"

Elena asked, trying to sound casual.

"What date?"

Damon responded casually, lean back into his chair and throw an arm over the back of the chair, behind Elena.

"Please, we all saw you and that blond bimbo swooning over that marshmallow trick of yours."

Caroline said, finally straightened up and away from her glass, shifting closer to Stefan while she glanced at Damon, irritated.

"Blond bimbo? I didn't remember talking to you during the night, Blondie."

Damon said, pretending to be surprised. Caroline snorted at him.

"We're leaving. Elena, do you need a lift?"

"Uh, no. I'm staying. Jeremy's still in his night shift. I'll wait for him to come home together."

"Fine. Just don't let the creeps get to you ok?"

Caroline said, obviously pun intended, then totally ignored Damon's presence, she pulled Stefan hand and stood up to walk out of their table. Elena smiled at her, gave her and Stefan hugs and watched them leave through the door.

Realization hit Elena as she took in the situation of her and Damon being alone in the now much more empty local bar in the late hours at night. She looked through the corner of her eyes, caught by surprised when she saw Damon was looking at her, studying her reaction with that smirk still on his face.

She sat there, tensed, didn't know what to do when she felt something tickling on her shoulder, and jumped up in her seat when she realized it was Damon's slender fingers stroking at her skin.

"So what were you jealous about?"

He asked casually as if asking her about the weather but she heard it like someone slammed her head with a iron plate.

"What?"

"I heard you talking to Blondie. You were jealous … of me and Rebekah?"

He raised an eyebrow, sat up to lean closer to her, amused by her reaction as she flushed and silently cursed herself for forgetting that if Stefan and Caroline could hear them, Damon surely could hear her too.

"Nope. Why the hell should I?"

She shrugged him off. She stood up, decided to leave for home, Jeremy could take care of himself, but she needed to get out of this situation as soon as possible, Damon's scent was starting to make her feel dizzy and light-hearted.

She was half happy and half upset when she noticed Damon didn't follow her.

"Whatever."

She murmured as she walked faster to head home.
