Disappointment
It had been a slow night at the lab so Russell let Nick go home a little early.
He walked into his house and went upstairs to use the bathroom.
The bathroom door was shut.
He knocked gently on the door, figuring Jackie was in there doing her hair.
"Come in." She said.
Instead of finding her fixing her hair he found on the edge of the bathtub with tears in her eyes.
"Honey what's wrong?" He asked as he sat down next to her.
"I started." She said.
"Started what?" He asked confusedly.
"My menstrual cycle."
"I'm sorry. Can I get you anything?" He replied, not knowing what else to say.
He had no idea why she'd be so upset about that.
"You don't understand Nicky." She told him as she saw the confused look on his face.
"You're right, I don't, I'm sorry."
"The fact that I started my cycle means I'm not pregnant." She told him.
He finally understood.
"Honey it's alright, we'll keep trying, it'll happen." He told her as he put his arm around her.
"I know, but you know me, I'm not very patient." She said with a smile.
He chuckled.
"And look on the bright side, we get to keep trying, and I really like that part." He told her with a huge smile.
She laughed.
"I'm sure you do." She replied.
He smiled, he was happy that she seemed to be cheered up.
She glanced at her watch.
"I better get ready for work, thank you for your encouragement." She told him.
He just smiled at her.
"What are you doing home so early anyways?" She asked as she grabbed her comb and began to comb her hair.
"It was a slow night so I got off a little early."
"That's nice." She said.
"It was." He agreed.
Jackie finished getting ready and then went in to wake Jasmine.
She was disappointed that no baby would be arriving soon but Nick was right, they would just have to keep trying and although she would never admit it to Nick she liked that part of the process just as much as he did.
