Chapter 1: Alone
I heard a loud creaking noise, followed by a crackle of static before I finally came to. It felt like it had been only a few minutes I was out, but I know immediately I was wrong. Not only was I not at my uncle's farm in the woods, I wasn't even IN the woods anymore. The world around me looks shockingly different: The mighty Oaks I used to climb on were gone, replaced with tall, narrow trees with aqua-colored leaves. The water right in front of me was tinted purple, not the clear blue my buddies and I used to swim in. Most importantly, the entire area was covered in glass. A dome.
"Welcome to Craft-Mine Industries Biodomes!" a booming voice said from nowhere.
I searched for the source of the sound, and eventually found it. And a very large image above me to accompany it. It was that of an older man, with a black suit and gray hair. He had a black object in his hand close to his mouth. "You have been selected to reside in dome Valhalla. This is our 5Th, and hopefully final dome type. Our last dome, Eden, was a flop from minute one. We should of known the air was poisoned. How that escaped us after the War of a Thousand Years is beyond us. Now, you are probably wondering what is going on. I'll give you the gist. A nuclear crisis destroyed nearly all life on the World of Minecraft. We were given the job to round up survivors, get them healthy and rid radioactivity from them, and send them to domes to start a new life. We're sure you'll adjust, test subject, so take the next few minutes to explore your surroundings."
Impossible. The world as I knew it is gone. My uncle is probably gone. My sister. My friends. Maybe even our president Notch. I looked around grimly at the new environment. It was a large shore that soon wrapped around itself in a full circle, leading up to a large cliff just behind me. The land form encircled a pond of indigo water. I looked around, and couldn't find any creatures. I sighed and swam across the pond to the shore to start collecting wood. As I punched the first tree down, I realized something strange about the logs I got from the tree. The bark was silver in color, not unlike that of a birch, but more reflective. I spent the entire day cutting down one of these trees, and turned the 16 logs into 64 wooden planks, and set them in my inventory for later.
The sun was close to setting, and I needed a home. Quick. I swam back across the pond to the cliff, which hung over a structure made of mossy cobblestone. I quickly turned 4 planks into a Work bench, 2 more into sticks, and crafted myself a pickaxe to make a home with. I had finished, and attached the door right as it became night. I started mining to expand the small home I had made when I had discovered something unusual. From what I remember, my father had spent a week in a mine only to find enough iron ore to craft a few shovels. But I was finding a lot of ore. I had found coal, and made torches, and then iron, all in one night. "I think this'll be alright," I said to myself as I crafted a furnace.
I left my house as soon as it had become the daytime to find a static image on the screen at the top of the dome. Eventually, the static disappeared and was replaced with an image of the older man. "Welcome to your second day of living in the dome," he said triumphantly, "Today we have discovered that most of our domes are very lethal. Not good. We're going to take some time to round up people in these failing domes. We'll be back when we find a few living people. If we don't, see you in 2 weeks."
I sighed and decided to take today to explore my surroundings. I swam across the pond to the shore, and climbed up the hill that led to the cliff above my home. On the way, I had found a few pumpkins, something my family had been trying to find since we had bought the land for our farm. Here I was now, with 9 of them. I examined all of them, and found an ink marking on the back of each pumpkin. It appeared to be an image of how the World of Minecraft used to look, a square dotted with several islands, but with a large C, M, and I stamped over it. It was as if these were not natural, but rather manufactured by Craft-Mine. I ignored it, and put the pumpkins away, and continued my climb.
It wasn't much later when I came across an iron building. This building also had the stamp on it, but on the door leading in. The building was dark, and I could hear noise on the other side. I knocked on the door, and there was no answer. I shrugged, and continued to make my way to the cliff. When I had gotten there, I saw a large stone structure, shaped like a castle. I quickly crafted a sign and planted it down in front of the structure, with the word "Castle Rock" written on it. I took a step back and looked at Castle Rock. It was small, and surrounded by a few of the strange trees, but still very inspiring to look at. I turned around and took another look, this time at the rest of the dome. It was not that large, but all in all, very magnificent. "Nothing could spoil this view," I said, before hearing a loud crash noise over at the building nearby. Something was happening. Something bad.
