The knife slides in, vivid images and sensations burn him up
smart-lawyer Sam in his G-man suit and shiny shoes….
Jessica's diamond ring sparkling….
leaning into the touch of Mom's hand, gentle against his cheek….
It's Sam's voice that anchors him; Sam's rough/gentle hands that wake him; the threat of the Djinn's blue fire that finally brings him back to reality and drives him, as he is always driven, to suffer anything to save his brother.
Wrists bleeding, he breaks the ropes, finds the discarded silver knife and gives it a new home, deep in the tattooed Djinn's cold heart.
