Ford fell in love with John Sheppard immediately. The fact that he was a few years older than himself and yet so very naïve astounded him. Being able to impart the knowledge he had to someone and not be viewed as the young and dumb newcomer was fun—different. Sheppard was so accepting of him: complimenting and respecting him. Ford was so in love that he would do absolutely anything for the man—he tolerated missions with only Rodney McKay and himself in order to keep the man happy and respectful of him. Really he only loved the man because he boosted his ego. It didn't end up being a problem, at least it wasn't until the very end when his arrogance caused him to defect and consequently get killed.

Rodney McKay fell in love with John Sheppard when he got an earful for wasting time. Normally no one would confront him—no one dared to because his intelligence and wit was unrivaled: until John. John, conceivably, could have been MENSA if he had bothered to try (which, of course, he didn't), and his wit was far beyond anything McKay could have imagined possible in a human. So when John told him what's what, Rodney could do nothing but respect him. In return, John remained his friend through thick and thin: even when he was unbearably arrogant, John kept up with him and made him remember that he wasn't anything more than a man (albeit, a mighty ingenious man).

Teyla fell in love with John on first sight: while his companions fell back on their misogynistic nature, John had eyes only for the strong woman in control of everything. In return she trusted him and only him. Her trust paid off when he saved her people, enlightened her to a new way of life, and trusted in her as well. Many times they relied on one another, fought side by side; even called one another 'close friends'. She loved him, even if she didn't fully understand every decision he made. It always turned out okay in the end. In addition, his heart was a warrior's through and through. He withstood tortures and injuries far beyond anyone she'd met before and came through remarkably unscathed.

Elizabeth Weir fell in love with Major John Sheppard when he risked everything to mount a rescue mission—not only to get back people who hated him and judged him for his past, but for complete strangers. She had to love that. He admired her leadership skills, even if they butted heads from time to time, they still managed to come out of every new situation okay—not perfect, but alive. They had some trust issues in the beginning, but by the end of their working together, they looked to each other for guidance.

Carson Beckett wasn't sure what to make of the man at first: he was a natural with Ancient Technology while Carson struggled to do the smallest thing with it. To top it off, John often undermined his authority and told him to buck up (among other things). So he sometimes hated the Major—he didn't give anything to Carson to like. But Carson saw how the others fell for him: how charming, sweet, considerate and strong he was. Carson admired that man, not the side that John always showed him. When he was dying from an Iratus bug around his neck and offered up the fact that he could die and then come back, Carson thought he was crazy but went for it anyway. While John was dead and inside the event horizon, Carson had a momentary panic attack—he cared for the man even though he didn't realize it. He was more than relieved when he resuscitated him.
