Surprises

Tony feathered a hand through his short brown hair and took the thin hand of the blonde at his side. They had met at the coffee shop two mornings ago. She was a ballerina; he had guessed correctly, the pink leg warmers she had worn weren't just a fashion statement. The couple turned down the walking path, the Italian let her lead them to a spot on the grass. The outdoor theatre had just opened up and it was a hot spot for couples. Tony's date stopped and spread out the blanket he had brought them on the grass in front of him and threw his date a wide grin only to find her looking in the opposite direction.
"She looks familiar" the blonde stated, her gaze locked on a couple a few yards away from them.
Tony nodded absent mindedly.
"I think," her subtle French accent emphasized the word, "that's Kate"
Tony's head popped up, his eyebrows raised in question.
"We went to the same Pilates studio before I moved from Georgetown. We were supposed to meet up yesterday, since I moved back. She had to cancel" She explained with a gentle smile, and a swish of her long blonde hair.
Tony's gaze locked on the brunette his date had just been speaking of. The thin woman was standing on the edge of a worn, cotton blue blanket, buttoning her jacket before sitting down.
"You know Kate Todd?" he asked, his date nodded exasperatedly.
Tony moved to pull her down next to him and just caught her wrist when she spoke again.
"She didn't mention her boyfriend, he looks a little old." She shrugged her shoulders and sat down next to Tony. She urged his arm around her waist only to see his gaze locked on the pair.
"That's one tonsil hockey match," he muttered as he gagged. Kate had just pulled the silver haired man beside her into a kiss. "That's my boss" he added for good measure before the movie started.
