How do you find the strength?

Chris sat on top of the Golden Gate Bridge. He couldn't help it, but his fists clenched thinking about the way his mother had died and the useless way in which the power of three had followed her. It was almost as if his aunts had given up all hope for the world and all the people in it. As much as he tried to tell himself that giving in to his tears was not going to help save Wyatt, he couldn't help it. Somehow he knew that if Clark and the Kents would be worried if they could see how much he kept bottled up these days.

His thoughts were drawn once again to the small family in Kansas who had helped and supported him during the most trying period in his life, when his brother had started to consolidate his power and draw Excalibur as part of his plan for revenge. Most of all, the Kents had given him a reason to continue to fight. Clark in particular had been a source of strength for Chris, who admired and respected the other boy's determined fight to protect a planet he was not even from.

Chris smiled when he remembered a discussion between the four of them. Mr Kent had pointed out to him that as he had powers to help people, he could not turn away from them and could still save his brother if he had faith in himself and the world. Chris remembered that as the point when he found the strength to go up against his brother, for Wyatt's own sake. He hoped that he could find out what had happened and stop it from happening again. Chris shook his head, once again wondering how he had become so introspective tonight. He was there to save Wyatt and had for some unknown reason thought that it would be, if not easy, then at least fairly straightforward. But as usual his family had to mess with that idea; first Phoebe, then Paige and finally his mom. Chris knew that lying to her was going to be hard and understood how annoyed she was at times, but it had still struck hard when she had said those harsh things to him and had not trusted him.

It was the opposite reaction to the one that he had received at the Kent's farm, though Chris did admit to himself that he did not have an agenda or a plan to work towards at that point. He had just been a scared and alone fourteen year old and had not given the Kents any reason to be on guard or suspicious of him at all. Chris had to admit that the times he spent with the Kents and his grandfather had been the best parts of that awful year. He just hadn't been able to understand Wyatt anymore; there just was not another way of putting it. His brother had changed after their mom's death, and not for the better. As bad as things got, Chris still had a safe and restful harbour to cling to and receive support from. But although families like the Kents were what he was fighting for, by doing this he would probably never see them in the other future. To make the world into a better place, he knew he would have to make sacrifices.

Authors notes: This is my first time writing Charmed or Smallville so my apologies if I have not done the characters much justice and hope I have not ruined them in this P.O.V. fic. I wanted to see if there was another group of people who could have possibly helped Chris find the strength to go against his brother.
