No More
-she breaks down, crying into her napkin-
She tries to reach for him, but he just backs away, head bowed. A hand tries to dry the tears on her cheeks, with no success, as she just looks at him. "I'm sorry," she says, sniffling. "I'm so so so so so sorry!"
Brown eyes stare deep into her, as he just shakes his head. "How can you be?" he asks quietly, eyes unblinking. "How can you be?" he repeats, before pushing himself off the wall and walking towards the exit.
She stares after him, but doesn't move.
A thousand thoughts pound in her head, each fighting for first place. He had seen her, he had seen her hugging Lucius. She sniffles, falling to the cobblestones, arms wrapped around herself. God, why was life so hard? Why couldn't she just be with him, be happy, and then worry about the consequences later?
Andromeda had done it, married the Muggle, and she had been disowned. Bella had a period of time where she had been fascinated by Gryffindor boys, and had snogged them religiously. And she hadn't been disowned, just told off.
But for herself?
She was going to marry Lucius Malfoy, and that was that. No if, no buts.
No more fantasies of becoming Mrs. James Potter, no more writing Narcissa Potter over and over in her books, no more kissing, no more loving, no more, no more!
At breakfast the next day, there's a note on the table, hand delivered, addressed to James Potter. He opens it with curiosity, bags underneath his eyes, the result of a sleepless night.
I'm sorry, but I can't keep loving you.
