He sat down on the bed in his hotel room and pulled a picture of Riley and the kids from his bag. He pulled his cell phone out and dialed his home number. He smiled when Riley picked up the phone.
"Hey baby" she said. His smiled grew even bigger when he could hear the boys arguing in the background.
"What are they fighting about?" he asked.
"Well … let's see it started out at seven this morning with I can jump higher than you can and then around noon it was who could eat their lunch faster and then around five it was who could swing higher and now it's who you love more". He didn't need to be there to know she was rolling her eyes. "John hold on".
"Daddy when are ya coming home?" Johnny asked. John frowned he had promised the boys he would be home that weekend but he was actually going to be another two weeks. He had to think of something fast.
He grinned as the perfect thing came to him. "I'm already there kiddo, just take a look around. I'm the sunshine in your hair; I'm the shadow on the ground. I'm the whisper in the wind, your imaginary friend. And I know I'm in your prayers, so you see kiddo I really am already there with you".
"Daddy you can't be all those things" Johnny didn't really believe his dad. "I want you to come home and play with me and tell Maddox that you love me more than him."
"I'm always with you John John I may not be standing right next to you but my love is always around you so I am always there with you even when I am not".
"You are confusin me Daddy" the younger boy said. "Here's Mommy". He handed the phone back to his mother and ran to tell his brother that John had confirmed that he loved the younger Cena boy more.
"Baby I miss you so much" she sighed. His heart broke because all he wanted to do at that moment was hold her in his arms. "Don't worry about the kids I got them under control all I want you to do is keep yourself safe". She curled the phone cord around in her fingers. "I wish you were here and I was in your arms right now instead of you being in that cold hotel bed by yourself. But I take solace that I'll be in your dreams tonight and I'll gently kiss your lips and touch you softly with my finger tips. So what I want you to do right now is get into bed and turn out the lights and close your eyes". He did as she instructed him to do.
"Ok now what?" he asked.
"Shh baby don't make a sound. Do you hear the beating of your heart?" she asked.
"Yes"
"That's me. I'm the moonlight shining down. I'm the whisper in the wind and I will always be there till the end. Can you feel the love that we share Johnny?" she asked as he began to feel sleepy.
"We can be a thousand miles apart but I will be with you wherever you are baby" his voice was slurred a little bit from him falling asleep.
"Go to sleep Johnny" she smiled when she heard his soft snoring. "I love you".
