A girl of about sixteen sat in the Hogwarts Library. One hand would run her fingers through her bushy brown hair, which would stop every time she would write something of importance down on a piece of parchment with the quill that was in other hand. Occasionally her brown eyes would wander up to a thick book next to her parchment. This girl's name was Hermione Granger.

Suddenly, Hermione heard footsteps entering the quiet library. She looked up hoping to see one of her best friends Ron Weasley or Harry Potter. But, as the person or persons-she couldn't tell which- rounded the corner she found out that it was only a group of giggling fifth-year girls whispering animatedly about what they were going to wear or who they were going to this year's Yule Ball with, next week. Hermione shook her head disapprovingly and went back to her work.

In the Gryffindor Common Room

"Ron, do you have a date for the ball yet?" a red headed fifth-year girl asked her brother, who was sitting in one of the squashy arm chairs by the fire.

Ron shook his head carelessly in reply.

"But, you're opening the dancing, Ron!" Ginny argued.

"So?"

"You can't just go partnerless!"

"Oh yeah? Watch me."

Harry had been listening to the siblings argue for a while now was suddenly struck by an idea.

"I know who would go with Ron," he paused for a minute then continued "Hermione."

Ron laughed so loud he cause a few nearby seventh-years to jump. "Yeah right." he said still laughing. He obviously thought Harry was joking.

"Why not?" Ginny asked him

"Don't you remember fourth-year?" Harry asked then, he put on a voice very much like Hermione's had been, "Next time there's a ball ask me before someone else and not as a last resort!"

"She wouldn't, she didn't mean-" Ron said nervously, then cut himself off.

"She did." Ginny said.

"You make it sound like Hermione wanted me to ask her to the next ball."

"What would you do if she wanted you to?"

"I'd, well I...I'll see you later."

With that, Ron got up out of his chair and walked out the portrait hole, leaving Harry and Ginny behind him.

Once he was out of Gryffindor Tower Ron decided he should find Hermione, and there was only one place she could be right now...the library.

As soon Ron reached the library he stood there for a minute debating if he should go in or not. Finally, he decided to enter. When he stepped into the quiet library he looked around he spotted Hermione and walked over to her.

"Hi Hermione." He whispered sitting down at the table.

"Hi Ron, I wanted to asked you something." said Hermione.

"Yeah?" said Ron curiously.

A/N: What did Hermione want to say? What will Ron's reaction be? When will I stop asking stupid questions? When you review that's when!
