who drowning in a pool
"Amber!" screamed Millie, one of Amber's good friends, from her backyard pool.
"Amber, c'mon! The waters' great!
Amber, who sat on Millie's front porch with a glass of cool lemonade, shook her head and smiled. "No, thanks, Millz. I'm good here with my lemonade."
Millie splashed water at her friend playfully and pouted. "But Amber," she whined. "I can't swim unsupervised. You have to swim with me."
Again, Amber shook her head. "Besides, I don't even have a bathing suit." Amber looked down at her summer outfit, consisting of a low cut white V-neck and jean shorty-shorts whit tattered ends. "Plus, I don't wanna get my hair wet." She continued. Millie rolled her eyes and splashed again at Amber.
"C'mon! You're wearing a bra, right? Just take of your shirt and come on in!"
She sighed. Millie was demanding, she thought. "I'm menstruating." Amber replied.
"No, you're not." Millie retorted. "You said that last week. Get in, now."
Amber, knowing she couldn't fight with Millie, rolled her eyes and stripped her shirt off. "Fine," she said. Amber took one large swing of her lemonade and ran for the pool. She jumped in with a big splash. Millie squealed with delight as she was hit with a wave of water. "Yay!" she squealed. Millie jumped on her friends back when she emerged from the water depths. "Have I ever told you how good a friend you are?" she said to Amber. "No, you should mention it more often." Amber replied with a giggle.
Just then, Millie's mother pocked her head through the back screen door. "Mill?" she called. "Can you come here and give mommy a hand?"
Millie blushed. "Moooooom." She moaned. She glanced at Amber and rolled her eyes. "Be right back. Jeez, you know moms."
"Right," she mumbled back. She swam to the middle of the pool as Millie jumped out of the pool and followed her mother inside the house.
Amber dipped her head beneath the surface of the water. She swam through the water, treading and kicking her way until she ran out of breath. After about five minutes, Amber grew board and glanced at the screen door in anticipation.
With a sigh, she began to splash around when finally she took a big gulp of air and dove beneath the surface again to see how long she could hold her breath. She counted to thirty when she ran out of air. She began to emerge to the surface.
But before she could reach the surface, her leg tugged on something. She looked at her leg and could see through the bleary water that the bottoms of her tattered jeans were caught by one of the pool filters.
A sudden wave a fear rushed through her as her lungs began to burn. She tugged her at her leg in an attempt to set if free but to no avail.
In an attempt to yell, a wave of bubbles escaped her mouth and filled with water.
Amber swallowed a mouthful of chlorine filled water as the fear began to grow as did the burning feeling in her lungs.
Finally, with one finally tug, Amber's lungs filled with as much water as they could possibly take.
