Senior year of high school is pretty much the same for every student around the country. Fill in college applications, write essays, mail, wait. Lather, rinse, repeat. Katniss Everdeen was no exception to that rule.
Her back story was a little different though. Katniss was running as far away from home as possible in a last attempt to get her mother to act like a parent again. It was risky, she knew that, but she was running out of options and she didn't want Prim, her little sister, to have to grow up faster than she had to. She didn't want her sister to have to worry about things like bills and food like she had to since their father's death.
So she was running. Running from Wyoming all the way to North Carolina. She had gotten a full ride scholarship to play softball for North Carolina State University. For once in her life she wouldn't have to worry about money and she would get to keep some constants from home : Softball and her best friend Gale.
That was her plan, her college dream. Get some distance between her and home, play the game she loves, get a fresh start and maybe, just maybe she would get her mother back to normal. She would finally be able to be Katniss, just Katniss. But of course, the odds were Katniss wouldn't stay "just Katniss" for long.
