and she defies

by NiNA_eN

Her life is full of certainties. -Chrome Dokuro, creeping Rokudo Mukuro. TYE/TYL.

one.

she is dying

Slowly and surely, she is dying.

The pain wracks her every breath, constricted lungs and deprived oxygen, a body emptied of organs and waiting for donations that will never come.

(she is not wanted)

She hears it through the cracks and gaps of closed doors and swishing curtains, she deserves to die.

The apathetic voice of a never-mother, the knowledge of worthlessness throughtout her entire life.

(so)

She would welcome death, a quiet yet wholehearted acceptance.

Until the voice.

Beautiful, serene and so gentle.

But Nagi is too far gone to care and stares indifferently into dual-coloured eyes and an unfamiliar expression - a smile.

She stares with apathetic eyes as he offers a hand -

Come with me, he says.

And there is that very tiny part of herself that never truly disappeared, that still holds onto tiny, selfish hopes and dreams

And she has this urge to try, to give into her desires.

This once

(she's going to die anyway)

And so she says yes

Then YES

And takes his hand.

two.

she is a girl

And she's pretty damned sure she is, dressed as she is in a fitted dress that bares her back, material sweeping her knees to be drawn back into a taffeta-like bow at her lower back.

Yet there is a man, standing quite close, a hand placed casually on her upper arm as he talks in a low voice; quite in the way Yamamoto-san always slung his arm around the other guardians and laughs cheerfully.

But she doesn't know this man like that and so her eyebrows furrow, but she is polite, keeping still as he leans closer still, lips pursed in the secrets he's obviously about to reveal.

And then - and then, she moves - she's moved - and for a moment she's disoriented until she realizes -

mukuro-sama - what are you doing - why did you do that?

And is back in her body again seconds later.

Because that friendly obviously in-need-of-help young man is now running away, without anyone to confide in, the poor troubled soul and -

did you not see the knife in his sleeve, dear sweet ignorant Chrome?

She frowns, no she did not, and berates her own naiveté, oblivious as his phantom hands ghost over her own, using them to adjust the draping neckline of her dress until it falls just right -

covering that small freckle, on the rise of her left breast.

A subtle strength. And so, two of the times she defied.

The first: a less flashy, more persistant kind of will. More her choice than Mukuro's. TYE.

The second: just plain, adorable obliviousness. Growing up as a Guardian, used to men - but not their advances. Totally not the Guardians/Mukuro's fault of course haha. TYL.
