Complications Have Arisen

Chapter One: A Difficult Mission Just Got Harder

I sighed, looking at the kid I was supposed to watch, his name was Naruto. It was a terribly easy mission, especially for an ANBU like myself. Just because it was boring as hell did not mean it was not necessary. You see, this twelve year old child had a long time friend and comrade of my mine sealed inside him. I had been overseeing him for the past decade or so, looking for any hints that it was my friend in there, not just a human child. But I have yet to see anything that would scream Kyuubi, it could always happen. I guess the Fourth really was a seal master, not many good keep Kyuubi locked up in kid for so long, or Kyuubi is just that good of an actor. I'm hoping for the latter.

If it were Kyuubi was truly sealed, that the child and him were two separate beings, then my job would be a whole lot harder. My job, given to me by the Shinigami himself, is to break Kyuubi out of the human, free him. It's going to be tough because these 'shinobi' humans have taken a large interest in him and the child is in the village leader's favour. They are constantly watching him and it is going to be hard getting the child alone to break Kurama out. I do feel a little bad because the child is innocent, not wanting this burden in the first place. The only comfort I have is that he will be with his family and will be truly happy, no longer alone.

Anyways, this mission has already been extremely hard and I have barely drawn up new plans for how I am going to kill the boy or if I can extract Kurama without killing the him. I chose the body of a sickly human ANBU by the name of Hayate Gekko. I thought with the sickness in his lungs, he would be weak enough that it would be easy to take over his body. I couldn't be more wrong. He fought tooth and nail for control of his body, he was very skilled with that sword. I had underestimated him and he nearly overpowered me. But in the end, I won and sent him to the Shinigami.

I have had the fun of finding out that me and the people of the Elemental Nations do not speak the same language. I had to learn the language and the history, everything within the first couple of hours of my time in the mortal realm. However, it seems Hayate was not quite the social butterfly, so I didn't have a ton of humans talking to me about things I had no knowledge. But the friends he had were close and spoke a lot, they always want to go places. It took awhile to review the memories to see who was who. I am glad he is in ANBU because it would've been hell trying to get in with only human powers. It would've been very detrimental to the mission if I had to waste that much time to have an excuse to get near the child.

And here I am now, watching the twelve year old in question sleep, wait, he's waking up now. I believe this is the team selections for the academy. He was finally told about his passenger, he was stunned and it just chipped away at my hope that it's just Kyuubi in there. I still have faith that Kyuubi is just that good of an actor, but it is dwindling. Look at him, dressed in his bright orange jumpsuit. The other shinobi do not understand the warning in the colour choice, they do not see what it means. In the natural world, the brightest in colour are always the most dangerous, whether it be poison or strength. And from the child's hair to his clothes, he is the brightest of the all. I see the warning and hope it is Kyuubi making that subtle warning and not just animalistic instinct the boy has inherited.

I hop along the buildings, following the child to the academy, wondering idly who will be in his team and who his sensei. I pray its not Kakashi Hatake, that man was the bane of my existence when he was in ANBU. He was very suspicious of me, he could see something was off about me, and worst of all, he kept confronting me about it. He will know also know exactly where I am and he'll probably know it's me. He really is a genius, he and those Naras are going to find out everything one day.

I shudder, remembering when he was my captain. He would always stare at me and corner me to talk about something like the weather, humans are so odd with their interrogation, but it made its mark. I remember he asked me if I would like to get something to eat with him, it would've been a perfect time to break me off from the group and interrogate me. He was so good at that, making it seem like he was talking out the new schedule when really he was threatening to tell the Hokage about me, it was terrifying.

Hiding in the corner of the classroom, I watch Naruto get yelled at by a pink-haired female named… Sakura? Yes I think that's her name. I listen to Iruka, the teacher human, give a speech to the graduating class about being genin. It is fascinating, a little dry, but still pretty interesting. The sensei finally finishes his speech and gets onto the really interesting part, team selections. I await the time where Naruto's name comes up. I have to wait awhile, six team's worth until finally on the seventh team his name comes up. He is with Sasuke Uchiha and Sakura Haruno, a pretty okay team. The Uchiha could be pretty annoying later with his sharingan, the girl could also be annoying with that bit of Kami blood in her veins. Now, onto their sensei. Kakashi Hatake, did I hear that right? Kakashi Hatake is their sensei.

Dammit.
