Paul sat by his lonesome in the bare hotel room, his onyx eyes lost in thought as he stared out the dew covered window. Pale flames that came from an of array of candles the only source of light in the dim room. It was evening, and he was accompanied only by memories. He was restless, lacking the ability to sleep. He vaguely wondered if day break would ever come. Not long ago, his beloved had passed.

They were meant to be married in the spring, after their term at the Academy they both attended was done. It was a school for the arts; he played piano, she violin. Loneliness was something he thought he'd never feel again. Not since he met her. He shut his eyes, the distant lullaby of them holding hands burning feebly like the pale flame of the candle lights.

"I thought you said forever..." these thoughts ran through his head, over and over.

Opening his eyes, they glanced briefly at the calendar. The month was August. He felt no desire to return to the Academy, were they had both first met. He shut his eyes again, the non-existant, graceful playing of her violin the only noise he heard in the silent, solemn room.

"I thought you said forever..." these thoughts ran through his head, over and over.

Who was going to call him on Sunday morning, to whisper sweet nothings in a sleepy voice? Who was he going to bring home, to waste evenings away with? Who was he going to experience what temporal days may bring with? Who was going to take away the pain, the loneliness?

"I thought you said forever..." he muttered, these thoughts running through his head over and over.

The memory of her beautiful violin playing was his only friend in his wallowing. He found himself at the window, opening it without sense. His eyes were open again, but now unseeing. They were now wandering in the hallucination that was her remembrance. Her laughter, and her gentle smile. Her constant reassurances. Her midnight blue hair that were paired with endless seas that were her eyes. He found himself lost in the recollection of it all. He just wanted one more chance to put his arms in fragile hands.

"I thought you said forever..."

Over and over, these thoughts were repeated, until the restless night became bitter oblivion.

Thank you for reading this. It is a little sad, but I enjoyed writing it. This short story was inspired by the song Paperthin Hymn by Amberlin. I do not own pokemon or the song.
