Hi! This story is actually a revised version of my "I will not bow" songfic without the song portion. I had a reviewer (thanks Aynessa!) suggest that the story alone sounded better without the lyrics, so I've edited a couple lines and left the song out. It's inspired by the song "I will not bow" by Breaking Benjamin.

The final tower tumbled over in the distance. Dark grey skies loomed overhead as lightning thundered and another storm approached. Broken windows and trash lined the muddy streets as people ran for cover. Children's cries could be heard all around.
...
He stood in the eye of the storm watching the destruction all around. A moment of silence as the world crumbled before him. The end was near.
But it wasn't over yet.
...
There was too much left that could be lost. Too many lives out there still waiting for rescue.
...
Another friend falls in the sidelines. Images of each relative dying flashes through his head as the battle rages on. Every spark of life cruelly cut away.
When will it be over?
If only they could run away. Pretend this never happened. Pretend it was all just a dream…

But it's not.
...
All is lost again, but he's not giving in...
And he will not bow.. nor will he break.
He'll shut his life away and stand up for what's right.
For while he stands, there's hope. And where there's hope, there's a way.
And for that he refuses to give in.
The person he once was is gone. Replaced with a cold hollow copy destined to see the mission through to the end.

Despite whatever happens, he will not forget the scene in front of him.

He will save the world.
