Chapter 1:

I let out a sigh as I made my way to the same old locker that read K. Severide. I stood before it staring, just staring at it. The past couple of days, seeing the aftermath of the Casey/Dawson drama, I realized I don't have anyone that loves me as much as they love each other. Yeah yeah yeah this is a really cheesy thought going through my mind, but it's probably from just being so lonely all the time...or the hangover I am currently experiencing. Either way, I know I have always had the occasional sleepover with a person of the opposite sex, but I know I am missing out on something so much better. I let out another sigh as I opened my locker and threw my bag in there. I felt a hand slap me on the back which quickly snapped me out of my thoughts. "Hey Case." I said coolly. "Hey man." He responded. "Chief wants everybody in the meeting room. Says he has an announcement to make." Casey added. I nodded at him "alright let's go see what the chief has in store for us today." I replied with a small laugh. You never know with Boden.

Lucy POV

I watched as everyone started filing in, getting more and more nervous by the second. I just keep reminding myself, it's only temporary. But then whenever I get assigned to my own ambo, I'll get to go through all of this all over again. 'Joy!' I sarcastically thought to myself. The last two people made their way to their seat, and I could feel all eyes on me. Which made me squirm a little uncomfortably. "Everyone this is Lucy Casteel. She is currently a paramedic in training and needs to obtain some training hours. She was assigned to our house to ride along with Mills and Brett." Chief Boden started to say, as he rambled some more, his voice kind of became an echo in my ears as I watched everyone as they closely listened, taking in what he was saying. There was one blonde girl who was smiling, that could either be a good thing or a bad thing. "Now everyone I want you to make Miss Casteel feel welcome during her time here with us." The Chief finished saying. "You're all dismissed." As soon as those words escaped his lips I became even more nervous than before. Mainly for the fact I was now going to be hammered with questions. Everyone stood up and came to shake my hand. "I am so outnumbered and this is so unfair." A man said to me. I looked at his jacket that read 'P. Mills'. The blonde that was smiling made her way over to us. "Oh Mills you will be a'okay." She said with a laugh. Her blue eyes turned back to me. "My name is Sylvia Brett, and this is our lovely Peter Mills." She added with a very warm and welcoming smile. "Come with me I will show you around!" Before any word could be spoken from my lips she interlaced her arm with mine and was pulling me away.

"You're pretty quiet." She said to me with a confused look. I looked back over at her with a smile and chuckled a bit. "I am just so nervous. This is a lot different than being in the classroom." I replied shyly to her. "Well you're in good hands here at 51, I can assure you of that." Sylvia finished her grand tour, and we made our way back to the kitchen area. "So Lucy where are you from?" A taller man with blonde hair and blue eyes asked. I smiled a little, "Georgia." "Hey we have a southern accent in the house!" He replied with a grin. "Well Lucy I am Lieutenant Matt Casey, this is Otis, Cruz, Mouch, Hermann, and my fian... I mean Dawson." His eyes quickly darted to the ground. I watched as the Latino woman stared at him. A big cloud of awkward silence fell over the standing group. "Welcome to 51!" The man Matt had introduced as Hermann said joyfully. I smiled and nodded. "Thank you. And I want to thank all of you for being so sweet, I was wondering if I could cook lunch for everyone today?" I asked with a smile of question on my face. "Sweetheart, if you can cook as good as you look, cook away!" A shorter man with dark hair and a mustache said with a big smile. "Otis! Don't listen to him girl!" Dawson replied with a laugh. Peter Mills followed me into the kitchen area. "I'll help you find everything you need." I gave a smile and a nod and began to scrummage through the cabinets and refrigerator. "So what brought you to Chicago?" Mills asked as I started mixing the batter for fried chicken. I stopped stirring for a minute and all emotion drained from my face. I began to recall the weekend before we moved. "I got a job offer in Chicago." He said to me, not even looking up from his phone. "That's great honey!" I said as I walked from his kitchen to his table. I slid a plate if food in front of him, but he didn't stop typing on his phone. "You're going to come with me." He told me with a smile as his eyes finally broke from his phone. I felt kind of flustered. He knew I finally got my paramedic certificate and had been assigned to a station here in Atlanta, how can he just assume I'll pack up and go with him. "I am?" I finally questioned. "Yes, yes you are, because you my darling are going to marry me." He had a devilish grin on his face as he whipped a ring box out of his pocket. "Earth to Lucy, you alright?" The sound of Mills voice snapped me from my thoughts. "Yes I am fine, sorry!"

After lunch, I headed out to the bay to check out everything. There was a group of men at a table playing a game of poker. I noticed that they were eating some of the chicken. I slowly walked over to their table. "Is it good?" Really Lucy, really? I thought to myself. "It was delicious." One of the men looked up and smiled. "I'm Kelly Severide by the way." He added still smiling. He then began to focus on his game again. I nodded and slowly started walking away. "Squad 3, truck 81, ambulance 61, battalion 25, apartment structure fire at Cason and Barrett." The call tone echoed throughout the building. Brett and Mills came running out together. "Your first rodeo, let's do this!" Mills said as he three climbed into the ambo. As I sat in the back I took deep breath after deep breath. I knew this would be totally different than everything I learned in paramedic school, but I am ready. I am so ready.

A/N: Thank you for reading my first Chicago Fire story! I know this is a really short chapter, but the next one will be a little longer I promise!
