The stars twinkled in the night as Hiccup stared at the sky, but the lights of the city brightened up the darkness around her. Hiccup smiled. Being outside on the balcony with the stars was nice and relaxing. She doesn't have to worry about bullies, exams, or anything that bothers here. It was late and she doesn't care. Sure she stayed in a boarding school, but she does love her roommate. They're the best friends she ever had. Then she noticed something in the corner of her eyes. A white car was driving in the drive way. A man came out and with him was a teenager. Hiccup squinted, trying to have a clear picture of the person, but it was so dark, the only thing she could make out was he's a guy. The older man must be his father. They seemed to be talking and the teenager just merely nodded as if he's not listening.
Then, Hiccup's father Stoick came out, greeting them. Stoick is the headmaster of Berk High School. Although the word academy would've fit better with the boarding school, but calling it a high school was fine enough since this school does act like an every day high school besides having dorms and free meals. Stoick shook both of their hands, talking to the teenager's father. The teenager leaned against the car as he watched the two adults went inside the building. Hiccup was sure she never saw the teenager before, but why is he staying outside for? The teenager walked tot he trunk and opened it. He was about to reach out and stopped. He glanced up where Hiccup was watching. Hiccup blinked and gulped. He spot her! Hiccup wanted to run away, but her feet couldn't move.
At the same time, the two tilted their heads. It looked like as if they're confused by each other presence. Then the teenager waved. Smiling, Hiccup waved back. She has to admit it was odd, but nice at the same time. The two stared at each other for a while. Hiccup wondered when he was going inside. She's not sure how long he's been outside.
"Hiccup?" a voice said.
"Astrid!" Hiccup exclaimed. She turned around as her roommate and best friend rubbed her eyes.
"Why are you outside?" She asked.
"J-Just watching the stars." Hiccup answered.
It was true until she saw the teenager. She would've find some constellations, but she just got distracted. Maybe Hiccup should tell Astrid the other part of the story, but since Astrid just woke up in the middle of the night, Hiccup decided to stay quiet.
Astrid smiled and put her arm over her shoulders. "Well it's getting late and you should get some sleep. We have a long day tomorrow."
Hiccup giggled. "I know."
As her friend guided her inside, Hiccup turned around. The boy was gone and so was the car. Hiccup sighed. She wished she would've said something to him. Whoever he was he must be an upperclassmen or a underclassmen. Although it was hard to figured it out since it was hard to see what he look like, but he's just a guy. Besides, he's probably one of those delinquents anyway.
When Hiccup woke up, Astrid was already changed. Her roommate was wearing a red blouse, a blue skirt with skulls, leggings, an axe necklace, and her hair was in a braid. However, Astrid didn't noticed Hiccup just woke up and left before Hiccup could greet her. Hiccup yawned as she changed into her every day clothes. Her green shirt that has the word "dragons" on it, her brown cardigan, black jeans, and boots.
Hiccup opened the door and went into the restroom where Astrid was putting on makeup. As Hiccup brushed her teeth, Astrid pulled out a combed and brushed Hiccup's hair. Hiccup playfully rolled her eyes. This was the every day routine she and Astrid always do. Hiccup wakes up last, change, brush her teeth, and Astrid braids her hair. Of course Hiccup could do it herself, but Astrid had this habit to braid people's hair whenever she had the chance. As Hiccup finished brushing her teeth, Astrid was already done braiding her hair. It was a nice single french braid. There were strands coming out, but Hiccup didn't mind. She always left it like that.
"Did you hear?" Astrid asked. "The seniors are hosting their graduation party and they're inviting every class there. It's going to be a prom."
Hiccup blinked. "They couldn't get enough of one prom, huh?"
Astrid smiled. "I'm so glad Stoick made them decide last month. Now everyone could have a chance to enjoy a party at the end of the year."
Hiccup nodded. Usually all the senior parties are for seniors and no one wasn't allowed to be in it, except for the teachers and the headmaster. Last month, the beginning of the school year, Stoick made the seniors to decide on what type of party the whole school to enjoy, since he's the one who makes the decisions what party they should have.
"Yeah, are you going to ask anyone?" Hiccup asked.
Astrid shrugged. "I don't know. Tuffnut and Snoutlout started asking me yesterday and I told them I'll think about it, but I don't know. I might just want to go with friends. How are you going to ask anyone?"
Hiccup pursed her lips as her cheeks flushed. "I-I don't know..."
Astrid smirked. "You know you could ask Aster."
The name of Aster caused Hiccup's face to turned into a deeper shade of red. Aster Hofferson is Astrid's twin brother. He's the guy all the girls love. He's handsome, smart, and athletic. Astrid and Aster have a similar personality, but they both have the same interest and they're both very competitive. The thought of Hiccup going to the prom with Aster makes her smile. She knew Aster when they were kids and she had a long-time crush on him, but that was a long time ago and now Aster ignores her. Astrid knew about her secret crush and was very supportive of it, but she too doesn't know if Aster does likes Hiccup.
"I'll think about it." Hiccup muttered.
Then Astrid's cellphone started to ring. Astrid took out her phone and turned it on. Her blue eyes lit up as she smiled. Hiccup frowned, glancing at her friend. Astrid texted on her phone and send it, putting it back into her pocket.
"That was Stormfly." Astrid explained. "She, Meatlug, Hookfang, Barf and Belch want us to meet their friend old from middle school at lunch. They're bringing Aster, Snoutlout, Fishlegs, and the twins."
Hiccup made a sour face when Snoutlout and the twins were mentioned. "Oh joy!"
Astrid smiled. "Come on. It'll be fun! We're going to meet them at Berk's Cafe. Besides, this will your chance to talk to Aster."
"I'll think about it."
Astrid patted her shoulder as she left. Hiccup sighed, giving herself a smile. She only has a year to ask Aster to the graduation party/prom. Unless he asked her then it'll be easier than the other way around. Then again, why would he like a girl like her? Hiccup just a loser. Every girl in the school are constantly trying to get him as their boyfriend and failed. If Hiccup doesn't go with him, at least she has Astrid to hang out with.
Grabbing her bag, Hiccup walked out of her dorm. In the dorms this building is only for girls, while the other building next to the girl's is the boys. As Hiccup walked out of the building, she went to the cafeteria. All the students were there, eating. In the corner of her eyes, she could see Astrid with her friend Stormfly, who has blonde hair and wearing a blue shirt with white pants. Astrid and Stormfly are like sisters and whenever they teamed up together, they're deadly.
Hiccup took an apple, heading outside. As soon as she was done eating, she dropped the core into the trash can. Hiccup sat down against a tree as the leaves fell down around her. The colors of red, brown, and yellow were around her. Hiccup took out her sketch book and began drawing. A smile stretched across her face. Her new designs of a dragon she created by looking at every animal she sees. This new one looked like a cat. There's only a lineart of it after several failure designs. Hiccup drew on the details on the dragon, but she doesn't know what color should the body and eyes be.
Then Hiccup drew the facial expressions of the cat-like dragon. Eyes being dilated, chasing light, rolling on grass, and smiling being toothless, but showed teeth when angry or wanted to. She also drew a symbol of the dragon, and put shadows around it to make it contrast. If this was a real dragon, Hiccup would be best friends with it. Now all Hiccup needed was a name of the dragon's type and given it a name.
"Nice drawing." a voice said.
Hiccup gasped and turned around. She blinked a few times. Behind her was a boy about her age. He had black hair, olive skin, and bright green eyes. He was wearing a black leather jacket, black jeans, and a red shirt with a skull, but his shoes were a different color. One was black, while the other was red. Hiccup had honestly to admit, he's really good-looking and cuter than Aster. Although she never saw him before. He must be new.
Hiccup cleared her throat and shut her sketch book. "Uh, thanks."
"You were that girl I saw last night!" the boy pointed out as if he just realized.
"Wh-What?" Hiccup frowned. Then she remembered the teenager she saw last night. Hiccup pointed at the boy and asked. "That was you?"
The boy nodded. "Yeah."
Hiccup blinked. "It was too dark outside and it was hard to see."
"I have good eyesight." The boy smirked. "So what were you doing outside?"
"Stargazing."
"That must've been nice, it's been a while since I did that."
Smiling a bit, Hiccup put her sketch book into her bag and stood up. She was surprised how tall the boy was. He's even taller than Aster. He must be around six foot and she could only reach to his chest. Hiccup twirled her hair a bit. This guy seemed to be a nice person, but he might be one of those people who's a jerk and make fun of her until Astrid beats them up.
"I-I'm Hiccup." Hiccup greeted.
The boy smiled with amusement. "Hiccup? Is that like your nickname..." Then he stopped and chuckled. "That's your real name isn't it?"
"Yeah, yeah, go and laugh." Hiccup sighed.
"Actually that's a cute name. I think it fits."
"Really?" Hiccup's eyes widened.
The boy nodded. "Yeah, at least it's better than Toothless."
Hiccup thought she heard that wrong. Did he just told her his name was...Toothless? Hiccup giggled a bit, covering her mouth. She tried to control her giggling, but she couldn't. This boy's name is Toothless? Hiccup always thought her father naming her was the worst name she ever got, but the name Toothless just beat that. On the other hand, it's a cute name too.
"Sorry." Hiccup apologized as she took a deep breath. "I think your name is cute too."
"At least your name fits you." Toothless laughed. "A lot of people don't call me Toothless that much. They mostly called me The Night Fury!"
Hiccup raised a brow. "The Night Fury? Why?"
"You'll find out."
"So are you new here?"
Toothless nodded. "Yeah, sort of. I lived here as a kid, but moved. My dad and I moved back because he got a promotion form his company and his friend runs the company in Berk. So we moved and he put me in this school."
"I think you'll like it here. Everyone's nice...well some people."
Toothless's eyes softened. "I'll keep that in mind."
Suddenly the bell rang. Hiccup sighed. She really wanted to talk to Toothless some more and hopefully became his friend. She never had a guy friend before, unless her godfather Gobber counts. Toothless reached out from the tree, pulling down his backpack. Hiccup tilted her head with confusion. Was he sitting in that tree for the entire time before she came outside? How come she didn't noticed him?
"So...do you want to hang out at lunch?" Hiccup asked.
"Sure!" Toothless answered. "Where do you want to meet?"
"How about here?"
"Perfect...Which reminds me, I need to get my schedule in the office."
Hiccup smiled. "Well you better hurry. I'll see you at lunch Toothless."
Toothless smiled. "You too, Hiccup! Bye!"
Toothless raced inside, waving at Hiccup. When he disappeared into the crowd, Hiccup took out her sketched book where the picture of her cat-like dragon was nearly done. Ever since she talked to Toothless, she finally knew what her type of specie her dragon will be. Hiccup took out her pencil as she wrote down her the species of her dragon and the mysterious side of the dragon.
Night Fury
Speed: Unknown
Size: Unknown
The unholy offspring of lightning and death itself. Hide and pray he does not find you.
Hiccup frowned. She wanted to give her dragon a name. Then she glanced over to the facial expression where she drew the Night Fury with no teeth because it's retractable teeth. Then Hiccup's eyes lit up. What if she use his name? With a smile, Hiccup wrote down the Night Fury's name.
Toothless
