"Sir?"

Norrington turned to Gillette, motioning for him to come into the office. He stood by a tall window that over looked the port. He really spent very little of the morning hours in this place, much less at the window, but something had compelled him to this morning.

"Sir, did you sign a treaty with the pirates of the Black Pearl?"

"I did."

"Sir...."

Norrington turned to look Gillette strait in the eye. "Have you noticed the lack of pirate ships that have been looting ships around the Port Royal area?"

"I thought it was because we'd hung most of them," Gillette responded with a raised eyebrow.

Norrington shook his head. "It's because even before the treaty was made, Sparrow was attacking any ship that dared to come near the Port Royal area." The commodore turned his eyes back to the window where he saw a sleek ship pulling in. He could just barely make out the flamboyant captain on deck. "He was protecting friends."

"He's a pirate, sir. Pirates-"

Norrington sighed. "In most cases, that would be enough for me to hang him on the spot, but not in this case. Sparrow is a very different individual, thus a very different pirate."

"Sir?"

"He won't harm Port Royal, but help it. We must put aside our feelings of embarrassment from the hanging and do what is the best for this settlement."

Gillette nodded slowly. "Aye, sir."

"So how much do you trust Norrington?" Ana Maria asked as she stepped up next to her captain.

"I don' trust anyone fully, luv, but Norrington's a good man, even if 'e's the way 'e is. 'e'll keep 'is word, luv."

"And if he doesn't?"

Jack turned to her and gave her a small grin. "Then we'll deal with it then, but until then we can stop by an' see the Turners whenever we'd like."

"I feel like they're controlling us, Jack."

"Nah, luv, we're controlling them." Jack leaned closer to her, as he tended to do. "Luv, we've got freedom they don' understand and can't ever grasp, much less capture."

Ana nodded. "Then I'll follow yer lead, Cap'n."

"Good to 'ear."
