Silence settled over the room.
"So we're leaving tonight?" Draco asked. Hermione smiled, "we're leaving tonight."
It was the day of their graduation from Hogwarts... well, technically, it was 1:57 a.m. and they were to graduate promptly at 10:30.
They sat in Draco's four poster bed when they made the decision to leave.
Originally, the plan was to date secretly all the while preparing their friends and family for their relationship that had started the previous fall... well, technically, October 18th.
The flaw of their seemingly well thought out plan was that no matter how many letters Hermione sent her friends saying, "Draco isn't all that bad," or "Draco and I are friends now, he's truly changed," the replies were always rude, harsh, but cold, and simply infuriating. And no matter how many times Draco had tried to warm his family up to "that Hermione Granger" or muggleborns in general, the replies were always aristocratic as they laughed about the phase their son was going through.
After almost a year of work, they realized it wasn't working. Therefore, Plan B was formed. The oh-so-in-love couple would leave England, as well as their family and friends, behind and move to Switzerland to finally be together fully. This plan was always the last resort, one doesn't just up and leave their whole life behind on a whim, but they had realized that it needed to happen.
The decision was finalized in the pre-dawn hours of their graduation day; although, Hermione was a planner and due to this fact they had already established jobs in Geneva, Switzerland.
Switzerland was a core part of Plan B because England was obviously out of the picture, France was too much for their introverted brains to fantasize over, and... Switzerland is perfect. Draco and Hermione snuck over their during their Easter holiday and fell in love with the country, visited the place they believed they would love to work, saw as many sights as their 24 hour visit could handle, and somehow fell even deeper into the abyss that is love.
So there they sat in a puzzle of sheets and clothes... their eyes were hopeful, scared, excited, terrified, and every other emotion all at once. They were too nervous and excited to sleep. As Head Boy and Girl they were expected to give speeches at the ceremony in just a few hours, there was also probably a silent expectation that they were expected to have slept but that didn't seem likely in their near future.
Draco & Hermione talked about their soon-to-be life until the sun rose and they decided to start getting prepared for all the tasks expected of them for the day. While they were sad to be leaving behind their lives, the couple couldn't wipe the giddy grins off their faces. People passing them in the halls likely thought that the Head Students were excited to graduate and do all the things that they were expected to do in the near future... they had no idea what was about to hit them.
