Owen Harper groggily blinked open his eyes a sound from the opposite end of the room awoke him from his restless slumber and on looking up, pushing himself up slightly in the bed, wincing slightly, he saw Gwen slowly enter into his room, quietly closing the door behind her.

'Hi,' She said quietly, her face devoid of the expression as she walked forward into the small room, hands fiddling nervously with each other. 'Sorry if I woke you.' She added, coming to stand by the end of his bed.

'Nah, s'alright.' He replied, avoiding her gaze.

'How are you feeling?' She asked after a few seconds pause, and Owen smirked humourlessly, still not looking up to meet her hazel eyes.

'Like shit,' He replied, and Gwen laughed slightly, her voice echoing slightly in the stark hospital room.

'You're such an idiot, do you know that? Getting into a cage with a bloody Weevil.' She told him.

'"Gwirionyn,"' Owen said suddenly and Gwen frowned at him. 'Idiot.' He translated pointlessly but Gwen just raised her eyebrows at him. 'You taught me that,' He concluded quietly and Gwen finally nodded, not saying anything.

There was another silence a both tried to think of something to say, the tension of unresolved issues and anger hanging in the air, until Gwen finally sat down on the end of Owen's bed with a sigh.

'I told Rhys,' She mumbled quietly, and Owen finally looked up at her, taking in her appearance properly. She looked tired and almost dishevelled, her noticed, bags dark under her eyes and her normally neatly ordered dark hair untidy and scraggly. She looked a mess. But then he couldn't exactly talk.

'What?' He asked, not quite believing what she had just said, and Gwen looked up at him, meeting her gaze.

'About us. About what happened. Last night, I told Rhys.' She stated matter-of-factly, but Owen couldn't understand- why was she being so calm about it?

'Gwen, if you-' He started, but Gwen interrupted.

'It's alright, I retconned him, he doesn't remember anything, I mean, I just wanted him to forgive me, but…' Gwen's voice trailed off into nothing and she just sat there, staring at the floor once again, her body slouched desolately. She looked like a woman who'd given up. 'But he didn't.' Gwen practically whispered a few seconds later, and a silent tear ran down her face. Owen felt his heart tear in two. He was the cause of all her pain and there was nothing he could do about it.

Suddenly, Gwen sniffed and sat upright, quickly wiping her face and smiling a remarkably realistic smile at Owen. Her gaze wandered over to his bedside table and she laughed slightly. 'I see someone bought you grapes. Jack was it?' She asked and Owen nodded mutely, still in shock over her sudden mood change. 'You hate grapes,' She smiled and Owen finally managed to smirk back.

'Yeah. Bastard.' He commented dryly and Gwen chuckled quietly, looking down again.

'Um, well, get better soon Owen, hope to see you in work soon,' She said, getting up suddenly and turning to leave.

'I'll be back in tomorrow.' He mumbled quietly before realising what she was doing. 'No, wait, Gwen, don't leave,' He called after her and Gwen turned back, frowning in confusion, one outstretched hand gripping the edge of the door.

'Look, Jack doesn't know I'm here, I've gotta go,' She said apologetically.

'Please, just stay a bit longer,' He pleaded quietly and Gwen took one step back into the room.

'Why?' She asked softly, her hazel eyes piercing his bruised ones.

Possible answers flitted through Owen's head, things he wanted to say, things he couldn't- "because we need to talk", "because I need you", "because you know you want to", "because I've changed"-

"Because I love you".

'Because I'm lonely,' Was what he actually said.
