A/N: So I wrote this a while ago, I just never got around to publishing it. The idiom I got was 'keep your chin up,' in case you didn't already know :)

Disclaimer: I do not own Harry Potter :(

"Cissy, what's wrong?" Andromeda walked into the room to find her younger sister pouting.

"Mother yelled at me for spilling tea on my dress."

"Hey," Andromeda started, placing her hand on Narcissa's shoulder. "Keep your chin up. Mother just wants us to be the best we can be. We're Blacks, and you know what that means, don't you?"

Narcissa picked her head up and recited, as if reading an invisible paper in front of her, "We are of the noble and most ancient house of Black. Therefore, we must act as the poised daughters we are to continue the legacy of Black and our pure blood."

"Exactly. Don't forget that. Would you like to play a game with me, Cissy?"

The blonde wiped her eyes and nodded earnestly. With that, the two sisters walked out together.

A sixteen-year-old Andromeda Black walked along the edge of the Forbidden Forest of Hogwarts.

She heard a rustling in the leaves, followed by two boys in Slytherin robes emerging from the trees.

"Mudbloods…." One mumbled, shaking his head.

"Avery, Lestrange." Andromeda said in greeting.

They nodded their heads in acknowledgement and continued towards the castle.

After they disappeared, Andromeda pushed the branches aside to find a boy curled up on the ground.

She hurriedly kneeled beside him, inspecting for injuries.

"Just a few minor hexes, you can go back to your dungeons, I'm fine." He said, glancing at the green and silver crest on her robes.

"I wasn't making sure you were okay, I was making sure there was no evidence leading to those two buffoons." She scoffed.

"Right, why would a pureblood brat like you be concerned with the well-being of a mudblood like me?" He stood up, grasping a nearby tree for support.

"Being muggleborn isn't so terrible."

"What would you know? This is probably the first time you've ever talked to anyone of muggle descent."

"I do feel a bit daring, taking to a muggleborn." She leaned forward excitedly to emphasize her statement.

"Because someone would just happen to be walking by the forest and find us here." Sarcasm dripped from his voice.

"I was." The statement was frank, and it left him with nothing to say. "Keep your chin up, Tonks, or I won't be able to see those blue eyes." Andromeda followed this statement with a wink and sashayed out of the foliage.

Ted Tonks watched the Slytherin girl walk up to the castle, and it wasn't until she was out of sight that he realised she hadn't once used the word mudblood.
