-1Demon: A slightly random poem. It made me think of Kenshin after I wrote it. I suppose you could say it takes place shortly after volume twenty-four of the manga after Spoiler Alert! he sees that Enishi 'killed' Kaoru. End Spoiler. The despair he faces after that makes him seem like he'll never recover, and I suppose that's where the idea of this poem came from.

Disclaimer: I, Demon of Evilness, do not own Rurouni Kenshin.

A ray of light shines through the darkness,

Piercing the surrounding shadows with shining intensity,

Bringing hope to an otherwise powerless vagabond

Who's only goal in life is to escape the shadow that threatens to engulf his soul.

He slowly raises his weary head

And immediately, he finds himself covering his eyes,

The light too much for his pained memories and heavy crimes.

It seems he cannot yet face the light of his future

Or face the sins of his past.

He has not yet found his answers

And he is still far from his goal of finding forgiveness

The wrongs he committed have not yet been forgiven

And it seems now that they never will.

He feels that he is finally ready to let go of hope

And without pausing for another second's thought,

He allows everything to slip from his grasp as he falls into the retreat

All around him, the ray of light, of hope, slowly diminishes

Whether it will ever again cross his path…

Is uncertain.

Demon: Constructive criticism will be adored and listened to. I'd like to hear what I'm doing right, but I'd love to hear what I'm doing wrong. Edit: Revision has been made to the first two lines.

Thanks for your time.
