This is what happens after I read one - yes, just one - FanFic about the Tenth Doctor and Rose. Wasn't even a pairing, just an innocent story. Ah well.
Regeneration energy poured through his body. It healed, and refreshed, but he didn't want to change. Not now. So he didn't, instead putting it into his hand. Bounding around, filled with new energy, he explained to his bewildered companions what was happening.
"And... it's still you?" Rose asked, quietly.
"Still me." Replied the Doctor, and in a split second they were hugging, and the Doctor pulled her into his arms and hugged her tighter than he ever had before. He had missed her so much, and it was so good to finally, finally have her back.
It took a lot of self control not to kiss her.
Far too much self control. So much, that he didn't notice himself whispering into her ear, "Never again. Never ever, I'm never letting you go again." He could feel her smiling into his shoulder, and it felt so good to have her back again.
He knew, even now, that when he'd have to say goodbye again - and he knew he would, he always had to say goodbye - it would be harder. Impossible.
Jack laughed, breaking the atmosphere between the two of them. The Doctor didn't hear the comments passed between his companions. His glittering, sparkling companions.
Who were now joined by the brightest of them all.
