Leaving....

Lina laid in her bed roll and sighed. Staring up at the stars, she thought of the day behind her. She and Gourry had beaten up some bandits and taken their loot....all in all, a normal day. Now a days, especially now that she was traveling alone with Gourry again, she tried to keep as busy as possible. Things had been slightly stressed between them lately. You could cut the tension with a knife, as they say. Lina knew that he was deciding upon something. But what, she didn't know.
Then it had struck her earlier that day, could it be that he was contemplating leaving her? Going home or just off by himself? These thoughts bothered her, more than she would even let herself believe. Sure, she knew that he wouldn't travel with her forever, but she didn't know it would end so soon. Of course, it HAD been almost two years now since they had first met. But what would she do if he left? She had no where to go and no one to travel with. Not that she needed anyone, she quickly told herself, she could handle anything on her own. But still, the idea of him leaving struck at something deep down, buried inside of Lina. She sighed.
"Lina?" Gourry asked across the fire from his bed roll, "You awake?"
Lina, surprised that he was, called back, "yeah..."
"Uh...we need to talk. There's something that's been on my mind lately..." he trailed off.
Lina sighed again. So it was true. He was going to leave.
"We've been traveling together for a long time now and I-"
Lina cut him off, "I know what your going to say Gourry."
"You-you do?"
"Yes," Lina sat up and looked into the fire, "And I understand completely."
"What?"
"I know that I can be a hard person to deal with sometimes and all that so, like I said, I understand."
"Wh-what?" Gourry stammered.
But Lina didn't hear him. She had gotten up and was walking over to a nearby lake. Sitting down by the lakes edge, she picked up a rock and skipped it across the lakes surface.
Gourry came walking up and sat down next to her. "I don't think you understand Lina."
"I do. Like I've said MANY times before, I don't need a protector."
"You-what are you talking about?"
Lina sighed and looked up to the sky. "I know that I hit you a lot and that I have a short temper and all.....so I understand why your leaving."
"I'm what?" Gourry looked at Lina, "I'm not leaving Lina."
"Your-your not?" Lina finally looked at him, puzzled.
"No. I couldn't ever leave you Lina."
Lina blushed and started to look away but Gourry reached out and softly pulled Lina's face back to look at him.
"What I was trying to tell you was that...I've realized that......that I love you."
"You what?" she asked him, her voice barely audible.
"I love you. That's what I was going to tell you," he paused and took a deep breath, "I wanted to know how you felt...." he trailed off, blushing too.
Lina didn't answer him. She just leaned forward and kissed him with all the love she had for him and that was his answer.
***The End***
