Prologue
As the giant rodent crossed in front of him and rounded the corner, with its long tail trailing behind. Sam could tell he might not make it. "Shit, I'm running out of timeā¦" Sam said as he ran towards the light post at the end of the alleyway, his tailcoat dragging behind him. The rodent had left quickly, or hidden itself very well. He followed the scent of the giant rat, and was led to an abandoned apartment complex, where he saw it eating something, he could only guess it'd found some scraps to chew on.
When he got closer, he realised he'd seen a woman laying in front of it in shock, still barely alive, with nothing but a bloody stump in place of her leg. She sat in horror, as a part of her was bitten off her body, and still being eaten. She sat, surprisingly silent, as this creature continued to nibble bits of flesh, tissue, and muscle off of what was now indescribable as human leg. "Please help-" the woman said as she drifted off into unconsciousness.
"This has gone far enough Prysler, you have to stop this!" Sam yelled to the creature, as it turned around to face him. It screamed a high pitched squeal of anger at him, but Sam ran at him, pulled his pistol from its holster, and shot the creature in the leg, stopping him from getting away. Sam stabbed a syringe into the rodents neck and injected quickly. The creature slapped Sam away and tried to run, but stopped to hiss, and cry into the air. Sam stood in place, with his pistol at ready, just in case the injection didn't work like before.
The creature started to shake in place, as it continued to screech into the sky, then turned to Sam and hissed one last time before its eyes rolled to the back of its head. The body convulsing, and contorting into impossible shapes, as it slowly shrunk down to human size. Hair falling off various parts of his body, and growing back in others. Its large front teeth painfully retreated back into its head, and a newer set of teeth grew back quickly in their place. The eyes rolled back down, different from the ugly shade of cloudy yellow they were before, now a set of scared brown eyes. Its claws grew and fell out of its hands, as its knees broke, and bent backwards to normal. It's tail falling out and burning until it was nothing.
As Sam looked at what was now a shaking, middle aged man planted onto the asphalt, he placed his pistol inside its holster, and walked over to him. "Come on James, you now what has to happen now. I know you didn't mean to kill her, that it was that 'thing,' but you know exactly what has to happen. I'll get you back home eventually, you'll be back to normal, I'll help you. But for now, you have to be contained."
"I know," said James, standing up warily. He started to walk over to the car, but stopped and vomited on the ground. He sat up, and said he'd be fine. Sam walked him over to his car, got in the driver's seat and took him to Mystol Penitentiary's Solitary Wing, where he placed a blanket around his shoulders, sat him down in the corner, and walked out, locking the door to the chamber, and leaving James, alone.
