Never had good timing
Disclaimer: I do not own Pacific Rim or its characters. But to be honest, I'd rather own a jaeger.
Summary: This is the extended ending to the movie. It of course involves everyone's favorite jaeger pilots Raleigh and Mako. It's your basic romantic fluff. Like so many people on this site, I really like the pairing and I'm making Raleigh take the first step.
As Raleigh sat on the escape pod in Mako's arms, he let the events of the day sink in. The Kaiju wars were over. The Breach was closed and they have saved the world. As Pentecost put it, they have "cancelled the apocalypse."
As he let that set in, he didn't forget those that were lost. When the striker eureka was lost, the world lost two great heroes. Stacker Pentecost, someone who Raleigh called a friend and a mentor, died protecting the world from the Kaiju the way he knew that the world would be saved. He knew that it was better to die in a jaeger, then crawling up a stupid, ineffective wall. Raleigh didn't forget about Chuck's sacrifice. Even though he wasn't a fan, he was a brave and tough pilot and he had Raleigh's respect. He can only imagine what his dad was feeling right now.
But for the first time in a long time, he was able to look forward to the future. More specifically, he was able to look forward to a future with Mako.
When he lost Yancy to the Knifehead in Alaska, he lost his brother and his friend. Since he was joined in the drift to his brother when he died, that lost connection left a deep scar that Raleigh thought was never going to heal.
He did feel something change however when he met Mako. Even before they drifted, right when she kicked his ass at the co-pilot tryouts he knew that they had a connection right there. They were both two broken people that had lost plenty to the Kaiju. They both gave each other hope and they knew that they were a perfect fit for one another. It was that belief that was cemented when they stopped the leatherback and Otachi from destroying Hong Kong. Raleigh was afraid that he wasn't going to have his chance when they were making there assault on the Breach. But since they were both alive, he wasn't going to waste another chance.
So without warning, right there on the escape pod in the middle of the pacific, he kissed her.
After minutes or what seemed like hours, they broke apart. Mako wasn't surprised at all because before Raleigh said one word, she said, "I was waiting for you to do that."
Raleigh laughed and said "Yeah. Well like I said, I never really had good timing. Look Mako…." Raleigh couldn't finish as he was cut off by Mako kissing him this time.
After minutes or what seemed like another couple of hours and before Raleigh could say another word, it was Mako who spoke. "Raleigh, you don't need to say anything, I was in your head remember. I have feelings for you too and now that we have a future, I want to see where it goes with you too."
Since she said what Raleigh was thinking, all he could say was "Sounds good to me." As he hugged her tighter and as they lay on the escape pod together, they were both thankful. It was because of a neural bridge and an 80 story Mech that they could both look forward to a brighter future together.
The end.
Author's note: This was my first movie fan fiction. I am a huge fan of this movie, not only because of the spectacular action and effects. But they did manage to put together a great story with some awesome characters. I hope I did it justice with this piece. If you like, feel free to review. Those interested however in being my jaeger co-pilot, please message me.
