A/N: Hey guys! Lookie lookie! I have a cookie!
So a few days ago I saw Rio 2, and wow was it fun! I really loved the songs, and the development of Blu and Jewel's relationship was so perfect that I nearly cried in the theater.
The only issue I noticed with the story as a whole was the fact that they created so many subplots that a lot of them ended up half-baked. I think they were a little too ambitious with the movie, and ended up running out of movie time.
Regardless, I liked the movie, and it inspired me to make this little snippit.
Hope you guys enjoy it! If you do, tell me, because I'm not sure if I should keep on making more Rio fics.
Adapting to life in the Amazon forest was not an easy task for Blu to take under his wings. All of his instincts concerning daily living had to be forgotten and hastily replaced: For starters, satisfying his hunger no longer meant getting a snack-sized bag of Doritos from the kitchen pantry, and instead became a search through the convoluted jungle for a single a Brazilian nut. Easy entertainment ceased to mean cable TV cartoons or a quick round of Super Shooter on his game console. In fact, Blu came to the conclusion that there was no "quick" form entertainment in the depths of the Amazon. Everything required an effort to be done, and regardless of how often he would force himself to be optimistic, he would be casually overwhelmed by the extra mile he would have to take.
He struggled, day in and day out, kind of hating this and really hating that. His biggest conflicts he would wordlessly have with Roberto. He hated his suave attitude and charming face. The "pretty birds" moves on Jewel also irked the already tense macaw.
The fact that he was always around -bringing up stories about the past and complimenting Jewel for her looks- was what bothered him the most about Jewel's "long-time friend". Blu was aware that hating others for admiring his partner was wrong and "a little chauvinistic" –as Linda would say with a puffed chest and flaring red cheeks; but he could not avoid feeling jealousy. Roberto made it seem like he knew Jewel far better than Blu, and suggestively scorned him for it.
'You didn't know that?' and 'How did she not tell you?' were the questions Roberto would often ask Blu in a taunting manner. Jewel's mate -refraining himself from showing the nuisance what he knew of Judo from the lessons he took- would force a small smile, lift a feathery brow, and answer with a respectful no. Swallowing his envy became something that Blu got especially good at.
He had Jewel though, and that was, without any doubt, his biggest blessing. She became a form of mentor to the sorry macaw, telling him what he could and could not eat, and warning him of where he could and could not go. His days were crammed with many rushed lessons, while his nights were full of heavy meditations. Frustration could best define Blu in his attempt to adapt.
However, he was ardently dedicated to the task of getting used to their new lifestyle. The male macaw believed that living here was the best thing that could happen to Jewel and the kids. Being a misfit was minor, as long as everyone else was happy.
All he had to do was adapt.
