Chapter One: Waking up
I laid on the ground waiting for someone to come to my rescue, I don't know where I am or how I got here, I heard loud sirens and men calling out to each other to find survivors, I opened my eyes just a little bit to see a man's figure running towards me. The figure had a box in his hand and came to my side and placed something cold over my face and put me onto a rolling bed. Then everything went. Black.
The constant beeping of machines woke me up, I opened my eyes a little bit to see two women in light colored scrubs writing something on a board, one of them had a needle and was inserting it into my arm, I flinched and wanted to pull my arm back and scream, but something didn't let me scream. The needle was placed into my arm and the women left me alone. Then things went black again.
"I think she will be waking up soon enough you put enough sedatives in her for she will be out for a couple of weeks." A man said, his voice was hoarse but a sense of protection came over me when I started to gain consciousness, Again.
I opened my eyes and looked around, I saw multiple beds that were occupied, I looked above the door arch and saw the letters I-C-U. I wondered what that meant, ICU. The man saw that I was fully conscious and aware of my surroundings. He walked towards me and smiled, he took a flashlight and glared it into my eyes, and said something that I didn't understand, but the two women were back and after the man said something the women recorded what he said on the board.
"Do you know where you are?" The man said.
I pointed to the sign that said the ICU, the man smiled at my response.
"Do you know who you are?" He asked
I looked at the man with a puzzled look on my face; I couldn't remember my own name, how sad. I shrugged my shoulders and looked at the man with a worried look. I started to become scared, I didn't like the questions he asked me, they were hard to answer.
"Okay, Can you talk?" He asked Smirking.
I opened my mouth to say something, I mouthed "yes" hoping sound would come out with it, but nothing did. The man frowned, and told me to sit up. I sat up; I was fascinated how my hands helped me up and how my elbows dug into the pillow. My head felt light when I sat up, I almost fell backwards until the man's large hand was placed on my back to keep me propped upwards.
His hand was warm, it was soothing on my cold back but it made me shiver. I looked at the man's face and saw a long scar going down his cheek; I lifted my hand and traced the scar with my finger. The scar felt smooth, almost felt like plastic that was glued onto his face. My eyes started to wander and I saw a gold plate on the man's white coat. Dr. Johnson. The letters of his name were black and they were engraved, I took my finger and traced the black letters.
"I'm going to give you a name and I want you to repeat it to the best of your ability. Okay?" Dr. Johnson said with a calming soothing voice. I nodded.
"Your new name is going to be Eri."
I thought for a little bit and opened my mouth and started to mouth my new name.
"E…..ri" I said softly. Dr. Johnson seemed impressed.
Dr. Johnson laid me back down gently and I drifted back to the darkness.
