"A-Avada Kedavra!" Kyoko screeched at the acromantula skittering towards her. Immediately the eight-legged creature fell over on its back dead.
"Kyoko yer did no'! You used a killin' curse on my Skippy!" Hagrid bellowed.
"Your Skippy was going to eat me for lunch!" said Kyoko, there were tears in her eyes as she ran away from Hagrid.
"SLYTHERIN!" The sorting hat announced to the great hall, and there was a roar of applause from the Slytherin table. When Professor McGonagall took off the sorting hat from Kyoko's head she saw the green-bannered table in uproar and smiled. She got up so quickly that she tripped over her own robes, falling flat on her face. Kyoko turned a deep crimson and clutched her now bloody nose in pain and humiliation. A Slytherin prefect sauntered over to her, picked her up and pointed her wand at her nose muttering 'episkey' immediately healing the damage. When Kyoko felt that her nose no longer hurt she joined the Slytherins at their table, glowing red with embarrassment.
"My name is Jane Roberts, I am your prefect and a prefect for Slytherin" said Jane.
"Jason Malone." Said a fellow Slytherin whom she sat next to and had just been sorted before Kyoko, he held out his hand for her to shake. "Pure-blood through and through, I can sense that you have pure blood too."
Kyoko was wary, but took his hand anyway, in the hopes of making a good first impression, or in this case, a friend. "Kyoko, Kyoko Shira." As soon as they had become acquainted, however, the last of the first years had been sorted and the food appeared on the tables.
When the time came to tuck in for the night, the house prefects for Ravenclaw, Hufflepuff, Gryffindor, and Slytherin escorted the students to their house's common room.
Kyoko followed Jane and the rest of the Slytherins followed suit, down, into the deepest parts of the dungeons of Hogwarts that seemed to give all the first years a chill as the delved deeper and deeper. Finally they arrived at a wall with two entwined snakes in the shape of a knot. The prefect who had healed her nose spoke to the snakes and said "Obliterated". Gradually the wall churned and slithered and the snakes formed into a round portal that they each could enter. The common room was a cool green and as Kyoko Shira entered she noticed the couches and for expensive and highly comfortable chairs sitting around a fire. The windows themselves were underwater! As she gazed at the windows, she noticed some fish swimming by, attracted to the light of the fire, shining and swimming passed.
"Right, everyone, first years," said Jane, "This is the common room. Downstairs you will find the light and the doors that lead to the girls and the boy's sleeping rooms, each of you will have your own bunk. Welcome, everyone, and welcome back, everyone else."
