So the first on a series of one shots based around Shikamaru. They are going to be short, just to warn you these are just short things that pop into my head.

Afternoon walk
It just happened one say, I didn't ask why I just kept walking whit him beside me, his hands deep in his pockets and the usual slouch of his shoulders allowed his head to tilt back and look towards the blue sky.
Since then it became part of our routine I guess.
Every Thursday afternoon I was home, and not incapacitated, I would take Aka out and he would show up somewhere along the route if he too was in the village.
It was turning into a normal phenomenon and Aka didn't mind a bit. He seemed to enjoy the calm existence of our walk partner and would even walk with him as opposed to me if he weren't in the mood to run off and chase his own shadow.
We spoke occasionally, mostly about the missions and the good old days back at the academy with Iruka-sensei. It became so natural to see him on a weekly basis that I didn't ever ask why or even think about the time when we didn't walk together.
As expected we soon knew each other better than most others, with exception to family and team, I learnt that he wasn't how I had perceived he had changed since the time we shared in class.
We had always been friends, never close, but we used to get in trouble together when we were younger. We would hang out in our pre-gennin days with Naruto and Choji but other than that were nothing more than comrades and shinobi of Konoha.
Even though I had accepted that he would always surprise me this…this was something that I never thought he would do…ever in a million years. It wasn't as if he hadn't missed a Thursday afternoon before. Yet he had decided that today he would write a note…
Kiba, sorry I can't make the walk. New mission, won't be around for a few weeks, Shikamaru.
