A sleek, grey tabby roamed the streets of a Japanese town. Shortly after Blackie and his humans left, the world had turned upside-down for Chi and her human family. Otosan and Okaasan, the parents in her human family, were finally caught having a cat in an apartment by the landlady. They were faced with a decision: pay a lot of money to buy a house, or give Chi to their friend and her family on a farm to take care of. Their finances were in no shape to be paying for a house yet. Their plan was to retrieve Chi from the friend once they could afford a house, but once they saved up enough money, they got a call from the family telling them that Chi had run away. Since then, Chi had run far and encountered many dangers. It had been so long that she forgot what her town looked like and where she used to live. She forgot her mission several times, in fact.
Wait—This seems familiar… when have I forgotten what I was supposed to do before…?
The memories of her mother were too far away from the border of memory to remember, but she tried anyway for a solid 5 minutes. Instead, a different and unrelated memory came up.
"When you're lost, look up at the sun." Blackie's strong, deep voice rang in her head. She looked up at the sun, after a few minutes, she saw the way home. The distance was very far, which discouraged Chi. She thought of not returning home, but she didn't know where to go anyway. She had just decided to return home when she suddenly heard a familiar meow in the distance.
Blackie!
Her eyes widened and joy filled her. For so long she wanted to see him, and she was finally going to. The meow wasn't nearly as far away as her old house, but was in a completely different direction. Nevertheless, she began to follow the sound to its source. After 6 minutes of walking, she smelled his scent from a bush. Not realizing that she still had a good 3 minute walk to find him, she peered under the bush. Her excitement faded when she realized it was just his territory mark. It took her a few seconds to remember the direction the meow came from, but she was on the right track in no time. She could tell she was getting closer when her scent-detecting nose and sense of direction agreed. In the backyard of some humans lay aged Blackie.
"Blackie!!" Chi exclaimed. He noticed Chi, but his eyes did not turn to her. Instead, his eyes wandered, as if searching.
"Chi? Come closer…" His meow was rasped and old sounding, but easily recognizable. Though confused, she came closer to her now elderly friend. Blackie squinted and meowed, "Boy, have you grown…" Then there was silence as he examined her the best he could.
"Ne, Blackie, what happened?" He could tell she was referring to his eyes.
"Ah, my eyes are failing me in this old age." He paused to cough, "And soon, so will this body…" Though he trailed, he meowed with no regret or sadness.
"Blackie, you won't leave Chi again, will you?" Chi meowed in a kitten-like tone. The old Blackie looked up at Chi, sighing with no regret.
"No one can live forever, Chi. And my time will come soon enough."
Chi desperately wanted to protest, but there was nothing she could do to change Blackie's decision.
"Then, at least let me stay with you until you… Have to go."
It was his turn to try and protest, but this was her decision, so he accepted.
And so, Chi stayed there with him until he vanished from this world.

And that concludes my first ever fanfic! To those who have watched Chi's Sweet Home: tell me, did I keep Chi and Blackie in character? Also, do you think I ended it too abruptly? Should I make a sequel?
