A/N- This drabble takes place during the first episode of the third season...sorry, I can't think of what the episode name was. It was the first time the TT met the villain Brother Blood... Anyway, sorry about that, but hopefully somebody out there will have a clue what I'm talking about. Enjoy! -C.A.
"Boo-ya! Looks like someone's been working out!" he crowed proudly, studying himself in the mirror.
Starfire stood in the doorway, clasping her hands behind her back, and watched, smiling fondly to herself. She didn't always understand what he was saying, but Cyborg could always make her smile. He was a good friend.
That good friend sensed her presence and whirled around, turning beet red when he spotted her. "Star…how long have you been standing there?"
She giggled and walked into the room. "Long enough."
Cyborg rubbed the back of his head, embarrassed. "…It's been so long… I'd forgotten what it felt like to be…normal again," he said hesitantly. He stared at his skin; it wasn't made of metal parts, complete with blinking lights. It was skin, human skin, human flesh. It might have been simply an illusion, but it was a very powerful, very real illusion.
Starfire stepped forward and took his hand in hers, finger brushing lightly over his palm. "I prefer the original," she said softly.
He sighed; there was a sorrowful note to it. "This was the original, Star." He turned back to the mirror and studied himself, his human body. "This was the original."
"That does not mean that you are any less of a person now," the redhead persisted urgently. Cyborg glanced down at her and his lips curved up into a faint smile. He reached out and rested a massive hand on her slender shoulder, and opened his mouth to say something, but-
"Cyborg." The two of them pivoted to see Robin standing in the doorway, watching them. At that moment, Starfire wished very dearly that Robin would simply go away and not come back for a while. "It's time."
Cyborg nodded solemnly. "I'm ready." Robin vanished into the shadows and then they were alone again. Starfire tilted her head back to the look at the half-robot, half teenage boy.
"You will return soon, yes?" she confirmed, a note of pleading in her voice.
"Soon," he said firmly. "I promise." He turned and walked out, leaving Starfire to stand alone in his room. She sighed to herself, and then smiled slightly.
Skin or metal, human or robot, Cyborg was still the same person on the inside: the same friend who always made her smile.
A/N- So, there you have it. For those of you who might be extremely confused, I apologize; the point is that Cyborg was using a technological illusion to make it seem like he was completely human again. Nothing more complicated than that. Anyway, hope you liked it! Reviews are sustenance. Thanks! -C.A.
