Lindsay's POV
Dog tags. Four words to describe them, part of his life. He wears them to work, the gym, when he ran in the morning which was rare for him. He wore them everywhere. He always wore them on the inside of his shirt. You world never know they were there unless you were me, his girlfriend Lindsay, of course. Or you knew he had them. He told me who ever wore them had to be special because he never took them off.
Here I sit 12 years later in a hospital bed. Holding our brand new baby girl, Cailegh Elizabeth Messer. I look over at my husband Danny and our 12 year old daughter DanniLyn Marie, asleep in the chair. As I watch my family sleep, I look back on that day some 14 years ago.
I remember me waking up to find Danny not laying next to me. As I set my feet on the floor of the hotel. That was in Hawaii. He took me there for my birthday. I looked down feeling something tickle my toes. I saw rose petals scattered all over the floor. They led me to deck and that's when I saw Danny sitting on the deck. Legs in between the bars of the railing. He must have seen me because he got up. Moved us towards the chairs. He sat me down and he got down on one knee. I remember his exact words, "I don't have a lot of money, and a ring is just a piece of jewelry you wear. I though these would mean more. Lindsay Marie Messer will you marry me. He opened the small box. Instead of seeing a ring, like he said, I saw his god tags. I remember him pulling on a thing on his neck. Then I saw an identical pair, but with my name on it, with his last name.
I haven't taken them off since the day he gave them to me. Just like mine are to him, they are very special. 6 months after Cailegh was born, Danny was injured at a crime scene. The 15 days he was in a coma, I never took them off, not even to take a shower or to sleep, like I usually did.
So what did you think? It was my first DL fanfic.
Tell if it was good or bad.
