His smile
Something called her to the surface. Somehow she could hear her own mantra don't stand still. She felt hands, touching her, testing her, feeling her and one just gently holding her right hand. Luckily none were on her left arm, that was broken, she knew that, she couldn't use that hand.
She had a choice she could respond to the call to resurface or sleep a little bit longer. She was hurt she felt that, but somehow there was something blissfully peaceful about the darkness that pulled her. She had had nightmares about Cammy, maybe she could sleep without disturbances in the darkness. She felt tired and sleep was calling, but there was something else, something that pulled her away from the darkness, that called to the surface. She knew that she would know what it was when she opened her eyes, but right now she just didn't know.
She recalled walking through the dessert, trying to find the road that was there somewhere. She recalled being attacked by Natalie, attacking her, falling out of a car and being pinned under one. She felt tired, she wanted to sleep, but her inquisitive nature called her to the surface. Finally she gave in, slowly opening her eyes, she looked through the slid of her eyes and saw a name tag: Grissom. In that instant she knew what had called her to the surface, it was the love she felt for this man. She knew she had made the right decision.
She moved her head a little bit and saw the face her mind had already conjured up. She saw a soft smile, she had seen it before and it was her favourite smile. It was soft, caring and revealing. It revealed what she had known for a long time, that this man loved her, with his whole heard.
She felt the strange hands and heard the rotors of the helicopter, it hurt her ears, but it didn't matter, right now the only thing that mattered was his smile. His smile was her world
