Our Baby
Summary: AlexAddison. Short one-short. Set during 3x01 'Time Has Come Today.' My take on this episode. Addisex
I'm actually a big Alex/Izzie fan but after watching the Season 3 premiere (I live in the UK so I've only just seen it) I'm really getting into the Alex/Addison pairing.

Addison Shepherd stepped into the small side room where the baby boy was being cared for. She couldn't conceal her surprise when she saw that Alex Karev was already there, his gaze fixed upon the tiny child. Addison hated to interrupt him so she silently crossed the small room and stood by his side. He turned to her and smiled slightly, he knew how much this baby meant to her.
"The girl doesn't want to keep him." She told Alex, while letting the baby wrap his tiny hand around her little finger. "As soon as he's fit enough social services will want to take him away."
Alex sighed, leaning his arms on the side of the incubator. "It doesn't seem right, does it?"
Addison shook her head. She had strong feelings about this but she wasn't quite sure if she was ready to confide in Alex about them. However, after the discovery she had made that morning about Derek, Meredith and the prom night she wasn't sure who else she had left to confide in. Today's case had brought out a side of Alex she had never seen but she had known that it existed somewhere inside of him. It was good to see him getting so passionately involved and Addison enjoyed watching him reveal the more caring side of his nature.
"Is there nothing we can do?" Alex asked.
Addison shook her head again. "It's not up to us anymore. The girl has made her decision and we have no choice but to respect it." Her bitterness was obvious.
Alex muttered something incomprehensible which seemed to mainly consist of expletives. Addison smiled wryly in response to this.
"Karev," She began, and then wished she had used his Christian name. "You can go if you want to, shift is over." She said a little more gently then softened her voice even further. "I'm sure you want to get back to Izzie."
Alex appreciated her thoughtfulness. People were wrong about Addison Shepherd and until today he had been one of them. Against his better judgement he began to open up to her. Working together on this delicate case had formed a bond between the two of them.
"She doesn't want to see me." He said, concentrating on the baby in the incubator rather than Addison.
Unconsciously she reached out and placed her free hand on Alex's wrist. He looked down at her hand but didn't resist her touch. They were both suddenly aware of the sudden intense crackle of chemistry between them and neither of them knew how to react to it; it was so unexpected.
Addison was flattered by the younger man's interest and for Alex the feeling was mutual.
"She will. In time." She reassured him. "It's a lot to deal with, losing someone you love." Addison knew the pain and Derek was still alive and well.
Alex nodded in reply. "I know." He replied, knowing the feeling too. Addison sensed that it was time to pull away from him.
"I don't like to leave him." She said, returning the conversation to it's original point of origin.
"I'm going to stay a while longer. He deseves to have someone to care about him." Alex said, defiantely in an accusing tone.
Addison was heading toward the door but turned back, letting her eyes meet Alex's.
"I know. He's our baby now."
