My dear Inspector Finch,

Or should I say Chief Inspector? I heard the news only last week and congratulations are certainly in order. My fondest wishes accompany you as you take on your new position.

But I confess, that is only a minor reason for my writing this letter - chiefly it is, in fact, a letter of thanks. I want you to know how very grateful I am to you for all that you have done for V and I. We just celebrated our first wedding anniversary yesterday, which, in turn, inspired me to think of you and write this. For if it hadn't been for you, Creedy would have black bagged me the second that I had become associated with V. If it hadn't been for you, V's plans probably wouldn't have gone as smoothly as they did. And, most important of all, if it hadn't been for you, I would have never taken a second sweep through the tunnels for any sign of V and I wouldn't have found him there, and he wouldn't be alive today.

We couldn't be happier at the moment - V has found us a beautiful house by a river where we can raise the newest addition to our family, Mercédès. She is three months old today. I see very little of myself in her, which actually pleases me greatly. Through her, I realize, is the only way I'll ever know what my husband really looks like.

You have done so much for us, I can't tell you how deeply indebted to you we are. And yet, I am concerned for you. As happy as we are, I know you are a man deeply committed to your work, which has caused you, if I may be so bold, to isolate yourself. Please, Chief Inspector, heed my advice. Love is the only thing worth pursuing in the world - the everyday hardly matters. I can only hope that you will be willing to open your heart and that you find the happiness that we have found.

Naturally there is no return address on this letter as I cannot disclose our whereabouts to you. In fact, I am sure this will be the first, last, and only communication you will ever receive from me. As much as that saddens me, it is for your own safety, as well as ours. I know you understand. Again, I thank you from the bottom of my heart, and you will be in our daily thoughts and prayers forever.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Evelyn Vendetta
