It was a fairly warm spring day. Megan, Garfield's older martian sister, had declared today to be a good shopping day and had left with Zatanna to purchase several goods, as she called it (Garfield knew she actually meant shoes). Nightwing was out with Robin and Batman doing something in Gotham City, Impulse was staying with his grandpa (aka the flash), Jamie and Cassie were out seeing a movie (they claimed it wasn't a date, but Garfield begged to differ), Karen and Mal were off on a date as well, and superboy had classes to attend that day. This left only two people within the cave. Garfield and L'gann.

Don't get him wrong, Garfield didn't hate L'gann, but he definitely didn't like him either. To be honest he didn't like the way he treated his sister and that was his only grievance with him. Actually the more Garfield thought about it, he really didn't know the fishy hero at all.

Garfield was currently crashed on the couch watching cheesy movies from disney when L'gann entered the room. Garfield looked up from his movie marathon to eye him. L'gann gave a jerk of his head to say hello before planting himself on the couch next to Garfield. Garfield, trying to be courteous for his sister's sake, offered him some popcorn from the bowl he'd been holding. L'gann gladly accepted the offer with a "Thanks chum." Garfield only gave a slight nod of his head before returning back to the movie.

When the movie finished several minutes later Garfield got up to put the popcorn bowl in the kitchen. To his surprise L'gann followed silently. Along awkward silence lasted for several minutes before L'gann finally asked or more stated "You don't like me, do you?"

Garfield regarded him with surprise. He didn't think L'gann would notice his feelings at all. He gave a long sigh before replying. It's not that i don't like you. It's just, I don't like you dating my sister." L'gann was quiet for several minutes in thought before saying "I can respect that, but maybe we can, I don't be like friends or something..." he trailed off awkwardly.

Garfield's mouth fell open. He wanted to be friends? He stared at L'gann for a few minutes before bursting out laughing. L'gann looked at Garfield, obviously offended. "You don't have to ask to be my friend, L'gann." Garfield gave him a wide smile, "True I may not like you dating my sister, but we are friends. But if you hurt my sister, I'm going maul your faces to pieces." L'gann stared at him for a few minutes before breaking out in a huge smile "Alright chum, but I don't plan on doing that."

When Megan returned home that evening with handful of bags, containing shoes (called it), she was surprised to find her fishy boyfriend and green little brother sitting on the couch sharing popcorn and watching Finding Nemo while often interrupting the movie by chatting to each other or giggling at each other's comments. Megan walked around to the front of the couch and asked the boys "Ok what gives?" L'gann looked up at his girlfriend. "Nothing," he said "Just hanging with my chum." Garfield and L'gann shared a smile.
