Another bethyl fic! Yay! I hope I'll have another one up soon after this, but I need to finish Hexed and I've got NaNoWriMo and exams coming so we'll see what I have time for. Anyways I hope you like this one. I recommend listening to Run by Daughter while you read this. Honestly it's like my bethyl anthem. Those lyrics though.
I'm Here:
"Beth!" he screamed. "Beth!"
Daryl couldn't breathe. He couldn't even fully comprehend what was happening. All he could do was keep running. Keep running, running, running after the car. He knew he had to do something, but he couldn't hear himself think over the pants of his breath and the squeaks and skids of the car.
Still running, he pulled his crossbow around and shot. His aim was way off so it took him a few tries –but he did it. The arrow ended up lodged in one of the back tires. The sudden deflation caused the car to drag a little and slow down. Daryl took advantage of that. He ran as fast as he could to the driver 's door and pried it open, pulling out an old, hard looking man.
Daryl didn't hold back. All at once he was punching the man. Over and over again not giving either of them a chance to breathe. Finally Daryl pulled out his crossbow and aimed it straight at the bastard's head.
He would have killed him; that was one thing Daryl was certain of, but then he heard her. Her little thumps and cries. "Daryl, help!" And he let go of the old man. He became irrelevant the moment he heard her voice and all that mattered was knowing she was okay.
Her yelps were coming from the boot. He wrenched it open and there she was; coated in sweat, her body folded into a strange position. He frantically helped her out and on to her feet, then he was on her. His arms wrapped around her like he was holding onto her for dear life. All his body weight pressed against her small frame. She returned the embrace just as desperately. They stood there clutching onto each other like two frightened children.
Abruptly Daryl pulled back, his eyes scanning her body for injuries. When he found nothing but a tiny graze on the bottom of her chin he breathed a sigh of relief. His hands encased her cheeks. He had to make sure she was really here, concrete, in front of him.
"I thought... I thought..." he rasped.
"It's okay" she said, soothingly running her hands up and down his arms. "I'm here."
He sucked in a breath and hugged her to him once more. This hug was more gentle than the last, but also shorter. Daryl twisted his way out of her arms and picked up the crossbow he hadn't remembered dropping. He aimed it at the old man's head.
"Daryl, no!" Beth cried. Daryl turned to look at her wide-eyed. What did she mean "no"? He was going to shoot this bastard. He didn't deserve to live on the same planet as her.
"Please, Daryl" she begged. "Can we please just go?"
All of a sudden, Daryl's anger began to fade. For once, he could read the look on her face. She just wanted this all to be over and Daryl knew that was the most important thing.
So after one last venom soaked kick to the old man's head, he took her hand and guided her away. He relished the feel of her hand in his. He could still feel how close he was to never seeing her again.
She's here he reminded himself. She's here.
So that's it! Thank you so much for reading! It was really nice to write. If you would be so kind as to leave a review it would make my day! Have a good one.
