The Lonely God
Just another lonely day sitting up on his cloud inside the dark walls of the TARDIS, but that was just how he wanted it. He was done with saving the universe and taking up companions along the way, done with it! He had lost too many and he blamed himself for all of their deaths, it didn't matter what anyone said, he still blamed himself.
So you could imagine that while questions about the strange, unknown visitor who had knocked on the door still fresh in his mind and Clara's reply "pond" still confusing him, he was surprised when the TARDIS console suddenly sprang to life and a hologram of Donna was projected before him.
"No! What are you doing! Stop this right now old girl!"
But he stopped shouting at the TARDIS when it began to speak, "Doctor you can't forget that you need someone. You can't travel alone for too long, you need someone to stop you".
And that was it, the lights shut off and so did the hologram, but even though the doctor knew it was just a hologram created by the TARDIS he couldn't shake the memory it sparked in his head.
She was standing in her wedding dress and she had turned down his offer to travel with him when she said, "You need someone to stop you…"
And in that moment, even when he knew it was just a fake something sparked inside of him. He finally realized how lonely he was and decided that maybe he could save the world one last time.
