Waiting for Superman
Brian. Please. Please be okay. My thoughts consumed me. Part of me knew he was okay, and maybe he just couldn't contact me right then. The other part of me saw him lying there, among the rubble and the dirt. And blood. So much blood.
The softest cry broke the silence. Sophia. Every time I looked at her I saw him, there was no denying she was his little girl, her soft skin, her big brown eyes. One look and you could get lost in those eyes, and it made me miss him even more. However what killed me the most was that he hasn't gotten to see her yet.
"Shh, baby it's okay.", I was in awe of her, everything about her completly captivated me. Her little hands and fingers, it was something I had never experienced and I never thought I would have to experience these things by myself.
I heard the phone ring across the hall in our bedroom. My heart quickened. Sophia had stopped crying so I gently kissed her on the forhead and laid her in her crib to sleep. On the third ring I stood before the phone, taking a deep breath before answering, knowing it could be anything.
"Hello?", I said, trying to keep calm.
"Hey baby.", Brian's voice came through the phone, my emotions took contol, and I could barely form words.
I tried to stop my tears from flowing because I knew he might not have much time to talk, "You're...okay.", I whispered.
"Of course I'm okay! How are my two angels?", he asked softly.
"We're fine.", I said, still trying to stay calm, he didn't need to hear me crying.
"Baby what's wrong? Why are you upset?"
"I just miss you, so much. Every time I wake up, every time I go to bed at night, every time I hold Soph-", he cut me off.
"SOPHIA! How is my baby girl?", he asked, I could tell he was excited.
"She's amazing,", I said, taking a deep breath,"she misses you. I miss you."
"I miss you too. And actually that's why I called."
I held my breath.
"I'm coming home."
