Sonia stood silently as the lights overhead slowly baked the top of her form. Her hands took their all too familiar positions before her, the fingers on her left craning into individual arrangements that had been practiced so many times before. Her right hand slowly moved up and down, proving why she had a rather fitting surname.
Or did.
Her fingers danced back and forth, the melodies she had become famous for coming to life in her head. Eventually, her foot would begin to tap in time with the music. Soon afterward, her head would join her foot and, as the music continued to play in her head, the rest of her body would begin as well. The song in her head would no longer remain there as the lyrics made their way from her mind to her lips.
The sound of her voice filled the room. Sweet words bounced around the wide room as the dulcet tones graced the presence and warmed the hearts of all within earshot.
Eventually, as with all good things, the song would come to its conclusion. Her voice softened as the music in her head faded. Her body's motions also ceased, leaving light pants of breath and a slightly bobbing figure as the only things that could be seen and heard. The audience before her had been treated to a brief display from an international music phenomenon.
If only, she would wish, that audience was larger than one. And that audience wasn't herself.
A pair of foreign arms, however, would, in a sense, make that wish come true. Her audience had been twice as strong as she'd thought, though as those arms began tighten around her waist and a chin found its way onto her shoulder, she wondered if the owner of those arms was even actually listening to her.
"As beautiful as ever." Geo said as he embraced Sonia.
She smiled as she set her hands on his, matching rings on both of their fingers making contact as well. "Me? Or my voice?"
"Both, though I thought you'd given up singing."
"For strangers, yes. For my husband and myself, though, is a whole different manner."
Just as Geo began to gently dig his chin into her shoulder so that he could access Sonia's neck, another sound began to fill the room. Light wails emanated from a small crib in the corner of the room.
"Missed someone." Geo said against her skin. "Your son wants an encore."
Sonia's smile grew slightly. "Well then, I suppose I should give him one."
As the two made their way to the crib, a small revelation presented itself in Sonia's mind. Her anonymous fans around the world could only listen to her sing through recordings and videos. Her two most devoted fans, however, she could perform for at any time she wished. She picked up her young son, brightened her smile and began singing once more. That's just how she wanted it.
Oneshots come to me all the time. This one, I felt like I had to act on. I like how it came out, despite it taking all of 15 minutes to write.
