I don't own the Xfiles or any character here.
In case you didn't know: at the end of the very first episode Mulder calls Scully while she is trying to sleep. A deleted part of the scene is a man sleeping in Scully's bed (he's there, but the scene is filmed in such a way that he can't be seen until he sits up and talks if you watch the deleted bit) .
Thanks, Egyptian Princess 1290 for correcting me on his name!
Dana Scully sat lightly on the bed that morning, waiting for him to come out of the shower. The thoughts of her first case with Speacial Agent Fox Mulder still flowed in her mind. She felt different now, as she thought about it. Everything she had ever believed in was in doubt. Were there aliens out there? Conspiracies, like Mulder said?
He came out of the shower and looked at her for a long moment. She stared at his eyes for a long moment and realised that she didn't love him anymore.
"Ethan..." she began, her voice cracking a little. She didn't want to hurt him or be alone, but she didn't love him anymore. "Ethan... I think it's time we...stopped..."
He stared at her confusedly. "What brought this so suddenly?"
Dana thought about it for a long moment, trying to sort out the confusion in her mind, telling herself that it was not because of Mulder that she was doing this. What would she say? How would she convince him not to take it too personally? Would he think that it was because of Mulder that she was leaving him?
"Ethan- you don't-" her voice stopped suddenly. She felt helpless as he stared at her from the doorway. "Ethan- you don't know me. You don't know me."
"I thought I knew you pretty well last night," he said, with amusement in his voice. She lost her temper suddenly at his pun. She stood.
"Stop- that was not funny. Ethan- I don't love you anymore! You don't know me!" she yelled at him and then suddenly her voice went quiet. "Go home."
"Okay, Okay, Dana. I'll be gone by the time you get home from work. I promise. Can I have one last hug before I go?"
She nodded and he took her in his arms. She remembered breifly why she had loved him, but she knew that she didn't anymore. He let go of her and she left him alone in the room. Grabbing her coat, and putting on her shoes, she turned to him before she left. "Goodbye Ethan."
"Goodbye."
As she entered and saw Fox Mulder there, sitting at his desk, she felt suddenly at home, and happy, despite the morning's events. Mulder looked up at her and gave her a smile, telling her good morning.
"Mulder," she said quietly. "I... i'd just like to say... thanks for putting your trust in me. I like working with you."
Mulder smiled kindly at her. "Thank you, Scully. I like working with you too."
Scully smiled and looked aroung the small basement office. Her eyes went to the big poster on the wall. She stared at it for a long moment.
I WANT TO BELIEVE.
